Purigen Ultimate Filtration 100 ml. Bag Aquarium Fish Tank Filter Media by Seachem

Brilliant stuff. Purigen is great at what it does. Water in my planted tank is gin clear. I can use this in my 180l tank for about 6 months before it needs changing out.

This is the third one I have bought for my tanks. I took the pictures 48 hours after at the same time of day. Honestly I truly believe this has saved my female betta tank, the water beforehand was murky it absolute stunk and my poor fish were really lethargic but I put this in and even before the 48 hour mark its clear and my fish are happy again . put one in my axolotl tank today and will also purchase another if needed for my other betta tank. I know you night think its expensive for a little bag of miracle sand like substance but honestly if you want your fish to be happy this is the product to buy. It also takes out the tannen from bogwood etc. Update: I also tried one of there in my axolotl tank cold water and although it did not work as fast like it does in freshwater tank it has still cleared it. Really is a little bag of miracle ☺️

This definitely helps clean the aquarium water

It definitely changes colour from pure white to deep brown. I have bleached it twice now and my thank seems fine. As in the title, not sure if it does what it is supposed to do but it seems to be doing something to itself.

This stuff is magical. Water will be crystal clear and will stay fantastic for a lot longer than the packaging suggests. I haven’t tried as the cost is low enough to just re-buy, but you can regenerate it and use it time and again too!

As you can see in the above ‘before and after’ picture this stuff works brilliantly for me (sorry about bad focus in the before). My bog wood really pushes out the tannins, even after months, and the water goes quite brown. I took the above after a 25% water change, in my 155l tank. I slipped the thin bag of media under the last foam filter in my canister. The second picture was the following morning. I think the water is still getting clearer! The fish seem so much more vibrant, just watching them now, almost like floating in air instead of water. Open the packaging carefully, and inside there is a thin mesh bag containing some white granules. Rinse this well in tap water - I also rinsed it off in the dechlorinated water I had ready to top up the tank. This was a ‘just in case thing’, it is probably not really needed. The bag fitted under my polishing foam filter inside my canister filter best. You want this to be as near the last stage as is convenient. (I could not fit mine above the foam easily). Apparently when the granules have gone brown, you can revive them but soaking them in a bleach solution for 8 hours. Would be pretty careful on rinsing that afterwards! It is not cheap, but they claim it will work for up to six months before a recharge is needed. I am not sure how many times you can recharge and reuse it, but if it lasts a year or more, then it does not seem too expensive really, particularly if you have brown water like mine.

This stuff is a total game-changer for keeping my aquarium water clear. If you've put any wood in your tank, which has leaked tannins, Purigen even gets rid of that effectively. ​ Setup was straightforward: rinse the bag, tuck it into high-flow area of the filter, and leave it. You will see a difference in as little as a couple of days. ​ Highly recommend. Used on a tropical setup, 180L tank.
