Excellent New Book
Antpittas are some of the most secretive and cryptically-plumaged birds of South America and as such, are highly-desired prizes for most birders. The plates in the book are excellent and the information and range maps unparalled. It is a hefty tome at nearly 500 pages in hardback but, essential to anyone interested in this family. There are 'stake outs' for a number of species now near lodges in the Neotropics but nevertheless, all sightings of any of the species in this family are a highlight of any birdwatching trip. Personally I have only managed to see 19 of them but, I have heard a lot more and this book not only brings back memories but, motivates me to go to see more. If you have the luggage allowance to pack this book on any South American tour do it!
