a snapshot of part of our culture not talked about that much...
I became aware of this book when I read an article online about the author who encountered the seller of these photos in a card fair. I found this book to be a window into a late 19th-century culture that is not well documented. If you are not offended by frontal nudity for either sex, it's good reading. All of the photos are posed by a professional photographer of the time and thus lacks the raw crudness of what we see today. The author gives a simpathetic view of the women who found themselves in this business but is clear to not endorse it.

Just some photos
Important to note: not all photographs are in the book. Theres a nice group of photos but there are more expilict ones the author chose not publish. Nice book though.

Finally
This book was so hard to get, always sold out and always pretty expensive...finally they got another batch and I got one. There is a decent amount of reading and history but the most important part is the pics. There are plenty of them and good quality, most of these women had some amazing bodies surprisingly.

Fascinating history
This book is well organized and fascinating. I'm glad I got a copy right away. My friends love looking at it. I love how much I resemble the women. There's plenty of text to give background and history. Lots of questions arise when you look at the images, and they do a good job answering them. Very classy, respectful, a sex worker time capsule!

Great book, very tastefully done! A glimpse into history
This book is marvelous! Who would have thought that finding a few postcards done over a century ago would be as interesting and add to a history of a town. And to think that this is one of my ancestors by marriage, well, that just makes it all the more interesting!

Worth it!
This is very well done. Never new our city had such a high class brothel. Fascinating!

Beautiful Tribute To All The Ladies Of The Night (and sometimes during the day too!).
Absolutely beautiful book. Can’t recommend it enough, but far too small to be a proper coffee table book. You have to really strain your eyes to make out the photos and you can’t make out all the details. Some of the pictures are minuscule and tiny. It should have been at LEAST twice the size, and I think they could have came up with a better book cover. It would have been perfect if they’d done this. As it is it justs sits on my table without much visitors noticing it, which is a shame as it’s absolutely riveting. What an amazing photographer and the ladies (of all kinds and shapes and sizes)are just beautiful.Thankfully it’s nearly all photos and not irritating in depth comments and analysis of the photos. In other words not loads of writing taking up space when what you really want to see is the photos!.Too think all these ladies are long gone but captured forever in this book.Nice foreword from the beautiful Miss Von Teese.Fantastic tribute to the oldest profession ever.Recommend.X
