Awesome intro to the writer's life
Took this out as a library book and liked it so much I decided to buy it! Author does a great job of showing different aspects of what being a writer really is and how to prepare oneself.

This book is everything you hope it will be...Encouragement, Instructive, Insider's Guide and Fun
I'm so happy I bought this book, and if you are beginning as a writer you will be too. It's like having a best friend on the inside to tell you all the things you need to know but didn't even know to ask.Paulette covers so many areas that are helpful and encouraging. I needed guidance to figure out how it looks to be a writer. Literally, WHAT DO YOU DO EVERY DAY?!? How do I go about getting better at this thing (writing) I discovered I love? Don't worry, this book will tell you. This is the very next thing I read after Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott once I knew I wanted to write. She covers so much: Having the courage to claim your space as a writer; how to read editing notes; organizing your ideas; billing for your work; how to participate in a workshop; what to read to improve as a writer...I don't know how she fit it all in, but it's there. She also includes actionable tips to get you moving. I just finished reading the entire thing, but I'm going to go back through again to do the exercises as I read.Lastly, Paulette's personality comes through in the writing and she is so fun to hang out with. This was exactly the book I needed to give me the courage to write and figure out the structure to do that. Thank you Paulette!

Worth every penny! Helpful for new and advanced writers alike!
I discovered this book when I went to a writer’s conference this year, and was curious enough to give it a buy after checking out the author’s website (which is also full of great resources!). I’ve read my fair share of writer’s manuals, and this is BY FAR the best one I’ve ever purchased. It’s full of excellent advice, no matter where you are in your writer’s journey. And the best part is that it never feels as if the author is talking down AT you — indeed, she is leveling with you as if she were chatting to a friend. This book totally turned my writer’s life around. I’m far more organized and enthusiastic about where I’m headed. A major plus is that the author also offers tailored coaching services, and you can learn more about her process via the book. She is extremely wonderful and thoughtful. :) Would 100% suggest this book! Buy it! It’s worth every penny.

writer's life
This book was basic but a quick read for me. The tone of the writing was conversational and casual. Text was interspersed with lists and small sections, which made it an easy read. Topics included starting out, practicing writing, practicing reading, focusing on one's writing craft, writing business, and life. For me, it didn't offer anything I haven't read about before, but as an introductory guide, I thought it worked well. The author also talked about her own writing journey, and gleaning writing experience from her job writing proposals. Other writers and their own experiences were mentioned throughout the text as well. That inclusion of personal experiences to supplement the information talked about was what made the read more meaningful for me.

Of all the books on the subject, this is the one that actually got me to start writing seriously.
"Welcome to the Writers Life" contains all the important information, succinctly and with inspiring details, and yet its also fun to read. Its perfect for people that always wanted to get their writing game rolling but couldn't figure out how. I bought a second copy for my niece because I wasnt willing to let my own copy stray too far from my desk.
