Replacement Biofilter for the Fluval C2
Ceramic biological media is not exactly an exciting product. This is just one of those consumables that you buy if you own a fish tank. Nevertheless, as a service to fellow consumers, it is important to share our experiences with products, even the less-glamorous items like this Fluval C-Nodes biological filter media. I have the Fluval C2 and C3 power filters. The C3 is still in the box and has not been opened. The C2 has been in service since January of 2014. It has proven itself very reliable and the performance is satisfactory. Consumables for the C2 model are the filter pads, the bagged carbon, the bio-screen filter, and ceramic biological media. The filters pads should be replaced once per month, or sooner, depending on your tank. The carbon can be replaced when it is exhausted. Some users do not bother with carbon. The filter functions fine without it, although if you have driftwood in your tank, your water will turn yellow sooner without carbon. The small bio-screen is an optional item. It's a small fabric with holes that help distribute water through the trickle filtration module. The trickle box contain the ceramic bio-media, which is the subject of this review. Normally, you will replace some of the media as they become clogged. The media itself will not deteriorate, but slime eventually builds. You can usually rinse the slime, but you will get to a point where it may be best to replace some of the media. This will happen because the C series models allow a lot of water bypass. The water that trickles through the ceramic media is unfiltered. There may also be a time when you medicate the tank but forgot to remove the trickle box. The ceramic media at that point is now contaminated with antibiotics. At that point, I suggest replacing them after the treatment. One of the selling points for the Fluval C-series models is the added benefit of the wet/dry trickle box. In theory, this should help with bio-filtration since the medium is located above the water line, where it is exposed to air. More air means more bacteria. More bacteria means faster decomposition of organic waste and faster detoxification of ammonia. This might be helpful for those who crowd their tanks. The C-nodes are just simple ceramic media. I suspect you may be able to substitute just about any media that will fit in the trickle box. The C2 is a small filter. Its filter box is small. Rather than use the bio-media from a Hagen Aquaclear, which is easier to find locally, I went ahead and ordered the ones specifically made for the filter model. If you have the larger models, the C3 and the C4, the filter box will be larger and you will have more options.Highly recommended if you own a model C2.

Great value, but check package!
I bought two of these refill foam pad 3-pack boxes for a Fluval C2 5 stage filter system for my kid's aquarium (along with other maintenance items). The entire filter system is top notch. HOWEVER, CHECK THE PACKAGE TO MAKE SURE IT CONTAINS THREE PADS!Both the box and the description stated that it was a 3-pack, but BOTH boxes only contained 2 pads. There was plenty of room for the third. I find it very odd that both would be short one pad. This seems out of the realm of realistic possibility as far as packaging errors go, but I guess it is possible.Amazon sent me another box, no hassle. This is the first time I've had a problem with an Amazon product and I am frankly amazed by their customer service. I did not have to send six emails and get worthless auto responses or call and play prompt lottery, explain my story nine times then get hung up on, etc. A rep called me and just took care of it within 3 minutes. This is unheard of these days. I'm very happy with my experience, however I only gave 4 stars due to the quantity issue.

Direct Cseries replacement media
These are direct replacement for the C series filter pads that come with the filter. Are the exact same size and thickness, made from same material. The only reason I took off a star is one pad is stained yellow on one side in one section. So I only got 2 pads that are usable. If the weren't so cheap I would probably return, but it's really not worth the trouble. These last a very long time, there is no need to replace monthly arls the directions state. Just rinse in tank water at every water change.

Killed all of my sons fish
Update- the corals survived but my sons fish died...I've pasted pics of 2 of the fish that died.I just placed a new pad in my sons tank and it released a soapy substance that killed all his fish within a few minutes. In my 20 years of reefing, I have never seen anything like this; it was immediate and heart breaking. This tank was over a year old.I posted 5 stars because I know they will not post it if I give it 1 star.I'm just hoping it doesn't kill his corals too.I've posted pics below

Clogs fast, I guess that’s good
Using on a 5 gallon aquarium with 6 fish in it. What a pain to install. What happened to the older Hagan aqua clears? The indicator tab on the filter bracket pops up within a week. It clogs fast, but that’s good because it’s cleaning, right? Efficient, yet horribly inefficient at the same time. We do not over feed

Good quantity in box
Of course this bio media is just like the one that originally comes with the filter, also it really gets the 5 starts because of how much you get in the box. I estimate it is enough for two full changes in a the C3. If you follow the manufactures instructions (replace half every 6 months) this will last one filter about 2 years. However I don't change mine that often. More like half every year. I do however add them as needed as the size of the media decreases over time for the ones in use; because of the water flowing on then 24/7

It's usually cheaper on Amazon.
I'm using Fluval C2 filter for years and I'm happy with it. This is one of the essential parts of the filter. I assume you also have the C2 filter. Then you already know that you can buy other brands activated carbon, biologic filter substrate, etcetera ,in bulk, and use them with Fluval C2 . But for me, particularly for the sponge, using Fluval's original one is better than cutting an off brand sponge to the right size, and as I said it's usually cheaper here than your local aquarium store.

Esponja Fluval C2

Perfecta
The media could not be loaded.
