It is very nice to read about Robert Langdon’s latest adventure. He is my hero being extremely intelligent, super brave and manly elegant. Not to betray my expectations this time, he travels a lot, goes through a lot, and reveals a lot. The theme of this book is enigmatic. It grabbed my attention in the very beginning and kept it in hold until the very last page. I feel though that this novel gives us an air of some academic book in places, where the narrative or Langdon’s explanation dwells on. Be that as it may, this novel is another great work. I give Langdon and Brown my sincere applause. “Fear makes us selfish,” Katherine said. “The more we fear death, the more we cling to ourselves, our belongings, our safe spaces…to that which is familiar. We exhibit increased nationalism, racism, and religious intolerance. We flout authority, ignore social mores, steal from others to provide for ourselves, and become more materialistic. We even abandon our feelings of environmental responsibility because we sense the planet is a lost cause and we’re all doomed anyway.”

Dan Brown, goodbye Robert Langdon?
Set aside a long, long weekend. A BIG read. Cliff hangers typical of DBrown's style, wonderful, the theme will really make you think though. Time for serious thinking.

It may be the future.
The novel is as exciting as the other ones from the same author. Of course, it does not give you the answer to "where does our consciousness reside", but it gives you some push to think about yourself. The thrilling part of the intelligence world wanting to control our consciousness seems realistic when we think about the possibility of human consciousness controlling drones or other machinery, especially in warfare. Hope that technology will be used for the better.

ストーリー展開が不自然、Kathreen(?)

The Secrets of Secrets is intriguing and a little different than previous books written by Dan Brown, because the secret is about consciousness and the brain, instead of ancient symbols. The story is fast paced and intertwined with explanations of how consciousness can transcend time and space, and perhaps death itself. In this novel, Robert Langdon, and Dr. Katherine Solomon, try to find her stolen manuscript (about how consciousness exists independent of the brain), while being perused at every turn from mysterious forces including the CIA and the government. The story is very interesting and keeps the reader reading from one chapter to another. There are many different characters in this novel, including a “Golem” (an ancient clay monster.) Brown’s fascinating descriptions of the different sites in Prague, makes me wish that an illustrated copy will be available soon. Brown’s book is extensively researched. More than his other books. He includes ancient beliefs about the mind and modern attempts to understand conscious abilities. Sometimes I wondered if these modern explorations into consciousness should be discontinued because of one method the researchers were using, (and if understanding non-local consciousness would be used for nefarious purposes.) Then I realized if we knew more about consciousness, it would change our perception of reality. Readers who studied new age beliefs should find Brown’s explanations of scientific topics more easily understood that other readers, but Brown does a very good job of explaining “non-local consciousness” and Noetic science in this book. This is a very entertaining novel, and it puts us in awe about what our minds are really are capable of doing.
