The Goal - Special Edition, Eliyahu M Goldratt

The book has indeed stood the test of time, and has become a staple read across business colleges. The same principles can also be applied to personal lives (at least I think so). It will be a helpful read for domain-specific people (meaning people dealing only in finance or HR) to understand business operations.

Had been told to read this book in college, finally got down to it 5 years later! The cover is different from as shown over here, but it has a nice foreword by Muthuraman of Tata Steel and a couple of bonus articles by Goldratt himself at the end. Looks and feels like a special edition. Not much to add about the book itself - it is a classic for a reason. It's a breezy read - both the personal and professional stories are equally engaging. One of those books your professors will suggest which you can read! :)

Fast read, fast information, fast knowledge, and all. Worth every paise. I wish I had read this book at the time of its first publishing, as it reiterates things much more clearly!

Got the recommendation from my boss for this and what a lovely way to make one understand a wonderful operational concept. Definitely worth a read - whether or not for business.

A plant manager has to revive his sick factory within three months or lose his job. He meets his mentor in an airport, who, through a process of questioning and subtle hints, leads him to the solutions to his problems. The author introduces the 'Theory of Constraints' (TOC) through the story, in a very engrossing manner. The scene where he leads a group of kids through a jungle and figures out the fastest way forward, using TOC is simply beautiful narration. The ending is a bit loose, maybe to accommodate a sequel (Goal 2 did come later, but this is a complete story in itself). Overall a good read, recommended for all who want something new and creative. The last few chapters of the book contain a detailed presentation of TOC techniques.

Recently had been to a SCM program and Badri (trainer) had suggested that all the trainees must go through this book whenever we could. Once I laid my had on Dr. Eli Goldratt's novel I was pretty sure everyone could relate to the ups and downs that Rogo faces in his career and family life, Also i could not keep the book down till I finished it. This gave an insight into how to look at bottlenecks and how theory of constraints come into play and also how people unintentionally ignore quite a few important elements in their life considering it to be of low/no value but on the contrary these are quite critical for the final throughput. This book should be read buy all those who have a very departmental approach to understand the bigger picture and also by people in the Head/Lead roles who are responsible to ensure all the depts. work towards delivering the final GOAL of the company.

最近、リーズナブルな価格の英文図書で、インド出版という書物に出くわすことが多い。おそらく制作のコストの問題もあるが、インドの内部でも読まれる機会が増えているし、ヨーロッパにも、アジアのエンドユーザーの届けるのが便利だという位置の優位が考えられる。その分、本の作りがやや雑な感じがする。内容は、TOC制約条件の理論で有名な入門編である。ある企業のトップから、日本で発売されたコミック版を推奨され、それの原作を確認する必要から注文した。こんな出会いであるが、ゴールドラットの文章は、基本はとても平易、しかし、大事な理論に関する用語は、硬い表現の単語が使用さtれている。 ひらがなの多い文章のなかで、そこだけ漢字というような文体である。小説の形式なので、まず、日本語のコミック版を片手にしながら英文を読んでいくと、話の筋が先に分かっているから、英語の表現を楽しめる。TOCは普及しないかぎりは、著者に意図は果たせないから、アカデミズムの本流からは外れているが、その理論は実は我々の先入観や、経験主義のよる固定観念こそ真の克服対象であることを覚らせてくれる。

This is a scam, it is a crappy low quality Indian fake, don't buy, it is a big waste of everyone's time.

I first had a copy many years ago. Bought this to replace the copy never returned to me. I just love this book. Whenever I'm explaining the theory of constrains, I always mention this book, and use 'Herby' to demonstrate it.
