I have the original HV UL2 orange color tent purchased in 2017 and it has been a killer but it is small and more for 1 person than 2. UL camp gear has come a long way since then and I am also getting older and doing less hiking and more camping. Not car camping but small hike in and setup, instead of miles of hiking. My back has gone downhill from skateboarding and I can't crawl around as easily as I could so (this tent is 5' tall in the center!) this UL 5 person tent caught my immediate attention since I am already familiar with the smaller version of the tent and IMO, the best freestanding UL tent, still even in 2025.. These MSRP for $949 so at $355 it seemed like the deal of the century! One reviewer made comment about the weight being more than all his 3 tents but if you look on amazon for 4-6 person tents, you will see that they weight 2x - 3x as much as this tent. Yeah it weighs more but it's light as hell for what it is! The poles are more robust than the UL2 so that adds weight and there is a lot more material but if you are new to Big Agnes Copper Spur line, they use the highest quality and most future forward design in tents. This thing is unbelievable at any price. It's just for my wife and myself. We don't hike with dogs or kids but we travel alot all over the world and this is something you can easily pack the rainfly and tent body into a 15L stuff sack and for the footprint I got a Clostnature 108"x84" footprint on amazon for $28 bucks and it fits this tent perimeter perfectly right up to the grommets and tent poles. We wrap the tent poles and the stakes in the footprint and that just goes in the side bottle pocket on my granite gear Leopar 48 UL pack. I carry the footprint/poles/stakes and she carries the tent/rainfly in the stuff sack in her pack. You split it up and it's very manageble, even for 1 person, I can carry it all in my 48L pack and still have room for my gear. I'll upload some pics later!

I searched everywhere for a 4 man tent that could be used for my family of me, my wife and two sons for lightweight backpacking. After months of web searching decided on this. Have just returned from three days use in the Cairngorm Mountains in Scotland and overall we are impressed! The tent easily fits us all and in the wet weather we were able to store wet packs and waterproofs in one porch and cook in the other. I was worried about the stability, but it did handle 35mph winds, for the weather I need it for it was fine, for really bad weather i.e. Scottish high level camping I would use a heavier 4 season tent. I made sure it was pitched correctly and I did use extra long strong pegs, plus all guys out. The tent did buck and boom A LOT, but it held, although it is noisy as fly creaks over poles. There was one point early in the night where one of the poles bowed in rather alarmingly, but I retightened all the anchor points - which had slackened off slightly, and it didn't happen again even though the winds increased. As the dad I never sleep well in bad weather, but the tent stood up to the gusts and the family slept. It endured prolonged, wind driven torrential rain and we stayed completely dry. No condensation even with the four of us in the tent in cool 6ºc temps. I did put an old shower curtain under the groundsheet to protect it - I will probably buy the footprint. We had to strip down in the rain and managed to pack everything including the inner from within the fly (tricky without the proper footprint, but 'do-able') emerging to quickly pack the rain soaked fly in a dry bag for the walk out. For what we need, 3 season backpacking, it is ideal.

Haven’t taken the tent out yet so this is only half of a review. Will update after I hit the trail. I can say setup is easy and the tent is super light. I doubled my interior space while taking a pound off my dry weight. The material seems very thin but only time will tell. In order to tie the tent down for severe weather you need more stakes than the company provides. Not a game changer but if you plan on really severe weather you will need 12 not 8. The dual vestibules are a really nice touch. Given im a single camper my gear will be in the tent with me but to shelter wood, chairs etc at night will be very welcome. The conversion of a vestibule wall to a rain roof using trekking poles sounds better than it is. Having the “roof” to cook during the rain is a nice touch but if you have any wind the roof will be useless and the rain will likely get in your tent. (Used a sprinkler test and gusts of wind blew the water right into the tent wall). With the vestibule down, the tent was perfectly dry and shed the water without any problem. I’m really excited about this tent and have found no problems in back yard testing. I will update after my next trip which will be a winter camp. UPDATE- everything I wanted and then some! What a great tent. Fits perfectly in the long side-pocket of my GG mariposa. Made it through a really bad storm no issues. Set up easy peasy in the field. Lots of interior room at the same weight of most one man tents. Freestanding for my next trip into the high Sierras. Get this tent! Update #2. New info worth mentioning!! Sitting in camp in the great sand dunes nat park. Got a weather alert over the ZOLEO. 60-70 mph dust storm on the way!!!! Handled it like a champ. The wind speeds in our sheltered area were probably around 30-40 max but it keept about 90% of the sand out and stood up to hard winds for 3 days straight. Excellent product that continues to impress!!
