USELESS...Cloud device,Only for Photos,Video
1. Filthy App, does not have considerable amount of options of medium range.2. You can only store Photos, Videos3. This device is considered to be a low grade leftover product as the app is designed in such a way.4. My God you should first call to their customer care number (1800-120-5789) and ask few questions and they are truely worthless and untrained. They were not even able to answer whether this device is capable to receive Text files (.doc, .xls, .pdf). They literally told yes it can hold, when i said the app does not show any such option and after 45 mins of my office time spending on call, they swiftly accepted with apology stating it will NOT accept any files apart from Pictures and Video

Looks good. But that's it.
The Pro's:1. WD Red HDD's.2. The HDD's are designed to be easily removed (especially on the Duo) either for upgrades or for warranty claims if and when the HDD's die.3. It looks good. The Con's:1. It is more a cloud device than a local network storage device.2. Internet access required to access the cloud portion of the drive even if you can see the device on your network.2. Local access is only possible via the WD Discovery software.3. Files stored in the locally mapped folder cannot be accessed from the cloud drive and vice-versa.4. Need to register the device using the key provided in the quick start guide in the box and create an account to access it from the mobile app or via the WD Discovery software.5. No ssh access.6. Fan is a bit noisy when it spins up periodically.7.Internet access with good upload speeds required if uploading large files to the cloud section of the device. This generation of the WD MyCloud Runs busybox unlike the older generation WD MyClouds. Not many workarounds available as yet to customize this thing unlike the previous generation WD MyCloudsRegister the device (use the serial number on the box) and the individual HDD's at WD and then update the warranty on each by uploading proof of purchase to get the full two year warranty.

Great Hardware but Poor Software and Features
It's really a good product. but what comes with it (software-side) is just bad! I bought the Duo variant with 8TB capacity (that means, it has two 4TB NAS Hard Drives in it) and I'm using it in RAID1 mode. It's really simple to set up. But there is a really annoying drawback in the PC Software it recommends you to install during set up - the WD Discovery app! I'm not sure whether it happens to everyone or not, but after installing the software I found that all other ordinary portable external hard drives (like Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB) went just ridiculously slow! I used to get around 120MB/s write speed on USB3.0 on those external drives but after installing the WD Discovery app, the speed started to hover around 10MB/s only - that's more than a whooping 90% decrease! I searched a lot for the option to stop monitoring external hard drives with the WD Discovery app (which it does automatically once installed. It will notify you whenever you attach an external storage device to your laptop via any USB port and will also show you an 'Eject' button i.e. basically a safely remove hardware alternative.) Also you need that crappy WD Discovery software to Map your My Cloud into Windows Explorer as Drive Z:/ and also to schedule automatic backup. But 90% extra speed for my other portable external drives looked more important to me than the basic features of the software, and that's why I uninstalled the app and now I'm simply using the web platform to access the drive. It works flawlessly. There is a built in Document viewer in the WebUI and also Media player just like Google Drive (that's why I've put 3 stars). So, my only opinion is that, if you are really looking for an alternative to Google Drive, OneDrive etc. and safeguard your cloud data under your control then obviously go for it but if you are expecting a full-fledged NAS capabilities where you can enjoy DLNA and such stuffs, then it's simply not for you.

The worst purchase I ever made.
I bought this to use it as a plex drive at my home. Installation was very so easy the entire installation and plex setup took me 10 min. There ends the fun part. The processing power is so low most of my movies don’t even play. Forget playing high resolution movies. It takes 4 to 5 min to processes the movie and starts playing. I feel like I am back in the 90’s, I think it will be funnier if WD adds the old modem diel tone... Some times copying movies from one folder to the other in the same drive takes time. With this price buy a use computer and build you won NAS.Still you want to buy this and dig your hole then good luck. By the way there is no returns only replacement on this.

Great Personal NAS in this Price Range.
I don't know why people are not happy with this product. It's a very good NAS for personal use and company has made a lot of improvements in the software. Now you can copy data to and from the device itself and plex is also a very handy app for media streaming if u have a smart tv. Plex also gives an option to enable and use DLNA. Overall as of now I am pretty much satisfied with this product and on top of that WD customer support is also very good. I called WD support couple of times and one of the support executives (Swarupa) gave me the exact information I was looking for, so to sum up one can buy this product as a personal NAS without any hesitation.

Useless piece of technology
It's slow and very difficult to use remotely.I have this attached via a gigabit ethernet to the router and a pc that's connected via gigabit ethernet as well. Max read speed is 100-110 MBPS and write is 30MBPS.It has a 5400 RPM drive which is the root cause of the problem, to top it up the filesystem KDDFS is slow.

No recyle bin / trash, fundamental flaw in a data storage product.
While it is value for money, fundametally it lacks by a big margin by not having a recycle bin / trash. If one deletes the file by mistake it is gone for ever. Fundamental flaw in a system which is meant for data storage. The app for Windows doesn't even work in Win 32 bit. Win 64 bit is mandatory.Doesn't work without internet. If your internet is down, you cannot access files.Lot of shortcomings.
