Review: Another Must See From India - Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is the saddest, happiest, stupidest, smartest, corniest, most sophisticated movie I have ever seen. It's dull, no wait, it's brilliant! The story lives moment to moment with jumps in time and reflects the best in human spirit. If you have ever been in love with someone so much that it hurts and that love was not returned, this story and its wonderful presentation may very nearly kill you with exquisite sadness. The characters are so well developed you live their pain and their happiness. Adults sometimes act like children and children sometimes act like adults in this astonishing celebration of life (aur death). Not everyone wins in this eternal love triangle but even the loser(s) seem to win while displaying superb character in acceptance of the consequences and the winners are reluctantly driven by powers explicitly greater than themselves. Despite all this, the film is light hearted. There are a few overly silly spots in the film but the rest of the time "something happens". The silliness seems to inject pain killer at just the right moments. Only slightly diminished at times by western influence, the singing and dancing is for the most part infectious, magnificent and unspoiled - so much art and beauty on one screen. The wedding (engagement) dance sequence IS worth the price of the film and worthy of a separate review. In the engagement dance, men dance with strength and precision yet seem to barely touch the floor while their loose fitting garments flow with masculine elegance. There is no sight in nature that rivals the beauty of these women dancers (in my mind) flowing like brilliant multi-colored grass in a wind that has meaning provided by the gods of music and the drums of man - and what drums they are! Superimposed on all this beauty and rejoicing is the serious undercurrent imparted by the conflicted bride to be. Oh, what the heck, Just buy this DVD and suffer with the rest of us. Review: Starring Rani Mukherjee, the most beautiful actress ever! - This is probably my favorite Indian DVD. It's got the most enjoyable story you could ever watch on film. I'm glad to see that desertcart is starting to provide Bollywood films. I knew after "Lagaan", "Monsoon Wedding", and "Bend it Like Beckham" came out, people are going to want to see more Indian films. This is a story about Rahul and Anjali, a boy and a girl who were best of friends back in college. This movie opens with a woman named Tina who is dying from a complicated birth. She asks her husband Rahul, while before she dies, to name their new daughter Anjali, and she also gives the grandmother 8 letters that she wrote to give to the newborn daughter, one letter for each year of the daughter's birthday. It is on Anjali's eighth birthday that she received the eighth letter written by her long gone dead mother. In this eighth letter, Anjali's mother Tina explained how she came into her father's life back in college and they fell in love. This love complicated a friendship between her father Rahul, and his best friend at college, a tomboy girl named Anjali. So Anjali left the college so that Tina and Rahul could be together. What little Anjali's mother wants her daughter to do is find the first Anjali and bring her back together with her father so that he will find happiness once again with his original best friend from college. This movie is a roller coaster of emotions. You will laugh and you will cry. In fact, you will probably cry twice within the first 15 minutes, but yet, you will laugh and be so engrossed into this film that you will wish you were there. It would be nice if this film had about 4 less songs because it does get a bit too musical sometimes, but the song videos do all look really colorful and classy. This movie stars Shahrukh Khan, Kajol, and Rani Mukherjee. You will love all three of these Indian stars right away. These three stars also star together in another Bollywood film that I recommend called "Kabhi Khushi Khabhie Gham". This film is also from the director Karan Johar. You don't have to be indian to love Bollywood!
I an not indian but I love Bollywood movies and to me, this is the best movie I have ever seen! This was the first movie and the first time I ever saw Shahrukh Khan and fell instantly in love! He is so funny, charming and when called for brilliantly serious and dramatic. This movie won my heart with its story and music. I really love just about every song in the movie; especially the title song. I just had to buy my own copy I love this movie so much and I will probably watch it every week! lol!. I am so glad that the availability of these movies are increasing to feed my addiction and to Shahrukh Khan! This is a must see movie, you have got to get it! I can't wait to see Shah in "My name is Khan" when it comes out. I have seen the trailer online (Google it)and it is very good!

Favorite Bollywood Movie
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai has some unforgettable Bollywood tunes and dance scenes. This love story is my favorite. It incorporates family values, the power of faith, and the vicissitudes of the heart. I am a little confused if there is an aspect of Reincarnation, but as a story it flows.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (Bollywood Movie / Indian Cinema / Hindi Film)
A film for all ages and for all time. The music alone grabs at you as do the voices of Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik in the song Kuch Kuch Hota Hai! Karan Johan is a master Director and Shah Rukh Khan is in tip top form and at his striking best physically and romantically! Rani Mukerjee grabs your attention as much as Kajol does! It's a film about young love, first love, love at first sight and the ability to express in gestures, what most often, cannot be expressed in words! Anjali, Rahul's daughter is left 8 letters by her mother who had passed away when she was a baby. On her 8th birthday she learns why she was named "Anjali", and of her mother's dying wish for her to find her namesake. As Anjani reads the letter which tells of how her parents met, the film takes you back to Rahul's school days and the tumultuous years he shared with his best friend Anjali . Rahul was a flirt and Anjali, a tom boy. They never considered their relationship as anything else than best friends. Tina was the Principal's daughter, newly arrived from Oxford University. For Rahul, it was love at first sight! But Rahul's explanation in class about what love is, stuns Anjali. Kuch Hota Hai! Something is happening! Before Anjali can express her feelings, Rahul shares his with her. Devastated, Anjali leaves the school without telling Rahul she is going away forever. He is upset and unsuccessful in his attempts to stop her. Anjali never corresponds. Will Rahul's daughter, Anjali, succeed in finding her namesake? Will Rahul and Anjali ever meet again? The songs and dances are catchy! Shah Rukh Khan moves with an easy grace, so does Rani Mukerjee and Salman Khan. It's a lighthearted, fun and heartwarming film not to be missed. A DVD to own!

Transcendent. A standout Bollywood tragicomic romance
I really can't describe the plot of this movie with more detail than previous reviewers have done & I also don't have the understanding of Bollywood cinema to put Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in context of that tradition, so I just want to add a review that I really enjoyed watching this movie. I've read the reviews that say the first half of the film is a caricatured bright-colored facsimile of college life, but in my opinion the first half builds the foundation for the story arc; both sides of this story are different in tone & that adds complexity to the storyline. Regardless of the color schemes & costuming choices the first half develops the characters & their relationships, & fills in the backstory. And unlike some Bollywood musicals, the song & dance numbers advance the plot, something I'm used to seeing in American musicals. The second half is a sea change with more lilting melodic songs & echoed chords from the earlier songs that add complexity to the storyline, something else I enjoyed in 1940s & 50s American musicals & don't see in contemporary American movies. The bubbliness & youthful openness of the lead actors change, but also draws on the remembrance of their earlier relationship, as the actors become more subtly romantic & yearning in the second part of the movie. So in other words, if you're watching K2H2 for the first time, don't judge it by the first...forty minutes. Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol are standouts in their parts & make the story better than it otherwise would have been. Sparks fly from this strong pairing. It's fun to see the juxtaposition of their characters from the first & second half making the movie one that's fun to watch over again. I disliked most of the comic secondary characters, but enjoyed the editing that placed different scenes next to each other in an effective way. I appreciated that the plot pacing was fairly quick too, except for at the end. I admit I do like the makeover movies: Pretty Woman, etc., so that element also had something to do with how much I enjoyed this movie. I also usually enjoy flashback chapters for the historical depth it can add to a storyline, so high marks from me on that element too. Hollywood hasn't made many movies lately that interest me, so thanks Bollywood. I'm more than happy to give you my money instead. Other Bollywood movies I've enjoyed are Lagaan & the fusion movies Bride & Prejudice & Monsoon Wedding.

BOLLYWOOD MOVIES ARE VERY ENTERTAINMENT AND YOU LEARN THINGS
I PURCHASED THESE BOLLOYWOOD MOVIES. MANY ARE THEM ARE FANTASTIC. The story line are great and they truly adhere to respect, rules of the family, honor to the family and they have some strange family honor rules. they must dance for their suitor and another one can come and take her if he presents a strong front at the dance. it is sooooo beautiful, the costumes and hair, nails, feet are beautiful and painted. They dance bare feet with painted designs on them. If husband dies, family takes her in as their daughter and can marry another brother, parents pick. It is so detailed, some with a lot of fun, but what got me to look at these, there was nothing on the tv during this time, so I watched one of these.. and was spell bound by their unbelievable dance routines in the movies. American's can't touch their dancing and they last a long time so you are well entertained. All movies have these dance routines in the movies; sometimes I had to go back over and over just to see it all, because they do so much in their dance routines you cant see it all, you have to look again. I love it. They also are true in love from parents, grands to the youth in love and marriage. They live the true lives of love, long life and marriages. Have many routines, traditions and ritiuals they follow and it is interesting to see all of these, because I learned so much about the India race. they are very honorable. You'd like all of them, just read the description to see if it floats your boat.

slow start, then wow!
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was recommended to us by a friend, the cover does'nt do the film any favours, and after the first 15 minutes i thought we had bought a duff film, then wow! it grabbed us. i will write the description from the rear of the dvd as none is written on amazons page: Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is a sweet tale of friendship and love. Rahul (shahrukh Khan) and Anjali (Kajol) are inseparable friends at college. unknown to Rahul Anjali is in love with him who inturn falls head over heels in love for a new student Tina (Rani Mukherji). when Anjali learns the truth, she is heart broken and leaves college. In the meantime Rahul and Tina get married. Nine years have now passed and Rahul is a Single parent after Tinas death. What has become of Anjali? what is Rahuls daughter upto? Who is Aman? the plot unravels in a dramatic climax and alls well that ends well. I can only say that this film is fabulous and well worth watching, it now ranks as one of our favourite of all films and its only our second " bollywood" film. The actors, after a slow start, engage you and you feel the whole journey, its normal for me to shead a tear at the end of a really good film, and im not ashamed to admit it! but its a first for me to shead them at many points during the film!
