“Working with the Emotions gave me a chance to explore a softer, sweeter side of music. Their sound was unique and I am glad I was involved in helping them share their gifts with the world." - MAURICE WHITE, January 2016.Although their biggest hit came eight years later with the blissful ‘Best of My Love’, sisters Sheila, Wanda and Jeanette Hutchison emerged as The Emotions with the quiet but urgent ‘So I Can Love You’ in 1969 on Stax’s Volt subsidiary followed by further hits ‘Stealing Love’ ‘My Honey and Me’, ‘From Toys To Boys’, ‘Show Me How’ and the classic B-Side, ‘Blind Alley’, many of which had been produced by Isaac Hayes and David Porter. The switch to Columbia with 1976’s FLOWERS would mark the beginning of a successful collaboration with Charles Stepney of Chess records before his untimely death, and Maurice White (Earth. Wind and Fire) who revitalized the band. The title track and first single returned them to the R&B top twenty. The single’s B-side however, ‘I Don’t Wanna Lose Your Love’, proved to be a bigger chart success that leans more into funk and is an effective signpost for their next single release and chart success in the #1 ‘Best of My Love’.1977’s REJOICE catapulted the band into platinum sales and spun off ‘Don’t Ask My Neighbors’ and featured a version of the Deniece Williams penned ‘Slip Away’. The band would continue their revitalized identity as well as regularity of musical output with 1978’s SUNBEAM delivered another top ten hit with ‘Smile’.Their 1979 collaboration with Earth, Wind and Fire on another career-defining disco smash, ‘Boogie Wonderland’ assured their international appeal. They would release a further two albums with Columbia, 1979’s COME INTO OUR WORLD and 1981’s NEW AFFAIR, before recording albums with Red Label and Motown in the mid-eighties. This beautiful double-disc digipak Anthology includes forty classic tracks, 24 of which made the Billboard R&B charts. Featuring recent interviews with Wanda Hutchinson Vaughn and the late Maurice White and a 24 page booklet, Blessed – The Emotions Anthology is a must for all Soul, Funk and Disco fans.

Another great release from the BBR label - the sweetest vocals from this terrific group with so many tracks to enjoy. Wonderful to see 'Miss Your Love' from their only Motown album included, the first time in CD I believe. The whole collection is highly recommended, don't miss out.

Error on Track 20 disc 1: Key To My Heart is actually A Long Way To Go, therefore Key To My Heart is missing - what a pity - otherwise this is a fabulous collection.

GRANDES

(Almost) Perfectly-Done Career-Spanning Compilation
Most people only know the Number 1 "Best of My Love" and huge disco staple "Boogie Wonderland" with Earth, Wind, & Fire, but the Emotions had 7 other pop hits and about 30 total R&B chart singles. This wonderful 40-track collection covers the group from their first Stax (actually Volt) hit, "So I Can Love You" through their mid-80's dance hits on Red Label. As other reviewers have noted, track 20 on Disc One shows as "Key To My Heart" but is actually "A Long Way To Go." As of this writing, Amazon is out of this item and other folks seem to think the error will be corrected on future printings. Maybe I got the last wrong one; another collector's item to make me RICH!The only significant chart hit not included is 1972's "I Could Never Be Happy" (#23 R&B, #92 pop), though "Put a Little Love Away" (#53 R&B, #73 pop) is here in an alternate mix. All Columbia/ARC singles are here. The Hutchinson sisters sing so prettily. And the quality of their material is very consistent...the two discs, basically separated into slow and fast numbers, are not programmed in chronological order but you'd only know that if you're poring over the liner notes or (like me) compulsively checking the group's chart history in the Joel Whitburn/Billboard books. Finally, the booklet is excellent. Christian John Wikane, who often does the notes for bbr reissues, gets a lot of quotes from Wanda Hutchison and longtime EW&F member Al McKay, and a few from much-missed EW&F leader Maurice White, who passed away earlier this year. Complete single and album listings and chart positions are shown as well. Beautifully done project, bummer about the one wrong song.

Was will man mehr! Hier hat sich bbr wieder mal sehr viel Mühe gegeben. good work!
