These are BPA free, food grade barrels making them safe for long term drinking water storage?

I purchased 3 of these blue water storage barrels, and plan to order another one. According to the manufacturer they are BPA free. I am using these barrels for emergency water storage (Amazon also sells the water preservative which preserves the water for 5 years). My barrels were delivered without serious dents, cracks or odors. I also purchased a “bung” wrench from Amazon to remove the 2 screw type openers on the lid. The whole lid itself of this barrel is not removable.

Why are two holes drilled on the rim of the barrel? They appear to be drilled directly on the seam, thus weakening its structural integrity. Why?

The top rim of the barrel has weep holes that are designed for draining water of the top of the barrel, they do not weaken the integrity of the barrel.

are these barrels UV resistant containers?

Supposedly. I keep mine inside. If I left it outside, I would definitely cover it.

do mosquitos get in there?

Not if you seal them tight after disinfecting and filling

Solid Simple Effective

Came back from camping, there it was on my porch. Its a heavy gage one-piece drum. Caps are solid and have fine and wide threads to keep them in the right hole. I filled mine up outside. Washed it out first. Took care of the plastic smell. You can see the level by looking down a hole with light. Easy to see. Ill fill it and check it periodically. Totally confident in this pirxhase and product. Very well-built. A noce addition to the water heater tank and tub bladders.
