Staub Cast Iron 6-qt Cochon Shallow Wide Round Cocotte - Matte Black, Made in France

I needed this for a Sunday roast and despite the few bad reviews I took a chance on it. It arrived perfectly put together with no chips or dents. I love it and it’s my new favorite pot!

This item was clearly already purchased and returned by somebody else. The plastic edge tabs were removed, the pot was not placed back into the box properly, and there were two Staub booklets inside.The packaging system Staub uses allows the lid to move around too much, damaging the pots. A nickles worth of foam would have avoided every instance of damage (six) I have encountered. In this case the packaging was torn; the lid askew, grinding the coating off the lid and the pot; and the heavy pig handle was not attached- it was just banging around inside the pot chipping the coating away and a gouging the finish. Note this is the third Staub pot I have just received recently that the handle was not properly attached-easily fixed and usually not an issue. From my experiences, the chances receiving an undamaged Staub item is less than 50%. Another disappointment. I will be looking for a brick and motor store that stocks Staub so I can inspect the cookware prior to purchasing.

I have several different sizes and have given these as gifts. Great to cook with, can be put in the oven as well.
