The Holy Quran: Translation and Commentary by Abdullah Yusef Ali

I am really impressed the care put into the making of this volume. The hard cover is beautiful and high quality. The extra material is well-written and shows a wealth of education. In particuar, there is a running commentary in shaded boxes. The poetic writing is a delight to read. It is designed so if you choose you can read just the commentary and very quickly gain a beautiful overall picture of the Qur'an. Attention to detail has been given to every aspect of the volume - the clarification of the text, the Arabic calligraphy, the punctuation, little ribbons for use as book marks, thin pages to fit so much into one book... I was also happily surprised to find small IPCI booklets in my package! They seemed rigorously researched and included things like findings that the age of Aisha at the time of her marriage was 19 (not 9 as sometimes misunderstood!).

I am super impressed with this, especially for the price. This is one to keep and use daily or it's high qualiity could make it a gift idea too. This Qu'ran is beautiful. Tough harback cover, gold gilt printed title looks sleek and shiny and very Arabian. It's lovely to hold and well-made with a durable binding and marker ribbon, all 2,000 plus pages are printed just fine. The content has the Ali translation with arabic, english and commentary and notes on the same page, i found it very easy to follow, better than other similar qurans. It has thousands of notes and also some extra essays on the faith of islam. This edition of the quran covers pretty much everything you ever need, Its a hefty book but not too heavy in weight and feels solid. Some other people may have a complaint about the thin paper used. They may have a point. Although the pages are fragile and very thin, thats not a problem because its the qu'ran and you'll be treating it gently and with the utmost respect anyway right?! Personally I am very happy with this purchase and recommend it highly.

I have read it twice. One of the great mysteries is how this is read beautiful in Arabic. Beauty lost in translation? It is not a patch on the Bible for content of literary diversity.

I think this book is well written by Abdullah. And its commentary is very helpful to understand every verse. But I am a little bit unhappy with the publisher because its pages are very thin.

Excellent in one word. I have just started reading this book . The way the book is translated and the additional notes are given, it gives more closer meaning to the Arabic text. Great work by Abdullah Yusuf Ali. The pricing of the book is really minimal compared to the size. A great binding looks really good as well. The side by side Arabic and English translation helps to understand the Suras which normally we use or hear in day to day. Alhamdulillah .

Everyone should read this book, it is a book about guidance in this life and after life particularly for Muslims who believe in ISLAM. The clear English translations and commentaries aid in the understanding of the messages of ALLAH (Subhallah) through his messenger Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). The Holy Qur'an is the only untarnished book from God. (Allah Hu Akbar)

Good looking watch, the E.T.A. caliber is the work-horse of auto calibers tough, cheap to maintain and accurate, the price I got it for new well just to good of a deal four years later.
