Operation Bedliner
Over two years in the making. Goal was to color match my rhino jeep. I wanted some practice first.(much of this review stems from questions I had in my research)Started mixing battle ship gray and smoke black, eventually adding insignia blue. Very close but not quite. Close enough. Ended up with 1 oz. each per bottle. I call it "Rhino123", 'cause that's about how many tries it took to get the color. Discovered the tint bottles are not consistent. The amount of pigment varies, so they have to be sorted accordingly or mixed together. I mix a batch in a clean liner bottle then use a 3 oz. cup to measure out for each bottle mixed.I've experimented with different levels of prep, scratch pads & sand paper.Over oxidation and prepped rust. So far it's been very forgiving and durable.Started with an old trailer tool box (spots of rust), intending to leave it out in the weather. Been two years, still looks good. Then the trailer, testing color and spray patterns. The grill and then a wheelbarrow to test textures. (just scuffed with scratch pads. oxidation and rust present on wheelbarrow) Why not a purple wheelbarrow?Clean seems to be more important than the level of abrasion. Used Custom ShopPanel prep, Grease and wax remover and acetone.Time to get down to business. Paint day! Took 12 bottles (grill & tailgate previously painted so 2 more bottles there). Three coats & good thickness, I'll take it. A coat consists of two passes overlapping, diagonally opposite. 100 psi at compressor, reg set at 50-55 psi, nozzle four turns out, 18" to 20" distance using included spray gun. Easy to spray. Took my time, no need to be in a rush. Five hours to spray jeep with a half hour lunch and an hour between coats. I also clean the spray gun between bottles. I let the liner cure for at least four days before exposing to direct sun or re-assembly that would put pressure on the liner(i.e. things bolted to it). The samples I pulled from the mask stayed rubbery for three days before starting to harden up. Still flexible, not brittle one month later.Yes, the spray gun is cheapo. My biggest issue is the trigger. There's a little pad that engages the air valve. It will start to slip to the side and form a groove. It gets to where it slips and binds up too often, throwing off your rhythm. If you get enough kits to spray a vehicle, you'll end up with enough spray guns. Once it starts slipping, it goes in the pile. Get another one. I had four ready to go. Wore out the first one, which still had purple on it, second is still good. They do work. Tried the $80 upol "professional" spray gun. It does make the grit pattern slightly less coarse than the regular one, adjustable to almost a matte paint look. I was surprised how the adjustment did make a noticeable difference (unlike the regular spray gun). It won't go as coarse as regular ones. You'll notice I didn't use it for this project.I let it cure for at least four days in the shade- 75 to 85 degree days. I think letting it get too hot, too soon leads to problems. Tested this on the wheelbarrow. It went into direct sun a few hours after spray. No shrink or peel so I don't know. The jeep stayed under cover for five days.Something to keep in mind: anything you take off to paint under won't fit the way it did before. This stuff is pretty thick. I got .021" total. My father, a professional automotive painter for 25 years, commented that in all his time he never checked his paint thickness with a micrometer. I think he may have been making fun of me.First day out- (painting done one week ago) well, it didn't fly off in big sheets going down the highway so that's good.Got a few scrapes from creosote brush, not one mark. Looked good before, looks better with some dust on it.Over a month now- has sat in direct sun all day in the parking lot at work, 90*+ temps. No shrinking or any wierdness. Could smell the volatiles for three weeks or so.I want to do another one. Coyote maybe. I want someone else to prep it, I don't ever want to do that again. lol. I'm eyeing my neighbor's YJ. Wonder if they'd notice...

High quality, durable, and easy to apply. Great customer service
Great product! Some of it had been damaged due to neglect of the shipping carrier but the company responded within an hour of me sending a message. They absolutely took care of me, and sent out replacement bottles. The quality is incredible, and for the price it can’t be beat!

Professional results when done proper.
Sand with 80 grit, clean with degreaser, and wipe down with lacquer thinner to get rid of residue and soften paint prior to spraying. Goes on beautiful.

Impressed
Bed is a short 6.5 foot bed. Three liters covered entire bed and tail gate. I find this mfg is thicker than others. They use a lot of base color and Corn starch/filler in primer and bed coating so, I prefer them over others to control thickness. Using the gun at 45psi works great and lays down a good build. I pour in hardener, than add reducer up to the bottle neck. Shake until my arms give up 2 min is suggested, attach and shoot. But, prep surface as required, blow out nooks and crannies, wipe down with MEK substitute or Acetone, tape up anything and everything you don’t want to get treated, etch prime bare metal and shoot front to back of bed from inside bed at about 2-3 feet. Save a cap or two from mixing, Once tape is removed, look for any goofs and use a small brush to dab. Don’t get wet!! dries in 48 hrs and hard as a rock in 7 days. Absolutely best stuff I’ve ever used. This is bed #5 done with this product. Best!
