The book successfully captures this phase of the Sit-In Civil Rights Movement in African Americans' struggles to be treated fairly and equally in the United States of America. It is well written and the illustrations are absolutely beautiful! It's well done from the beginning to the end! Bravo!

Love, love, love this book! My son is a student at North Carolina A & T and I wanted to know the significance of the statue of the 4 men thats on campus. This story taught me and my younger child everything we needed to know. It's very well written and the illustrations are beautiful. I've recommended this book to all my educator friends.

I always try to find some children's books to use in my classroom to teach background knowledge. I used this book while teaching The Watson's Go to Birmingham 1963. I find that students have little background knowledge about difficult situations. This book had some great details and a nice timeline at the back. The illustrations were fantastic.

This was an outstanding nonfiction book for all ages. The content and the illustrations were superb!Our students in 3rd grade enjoyed the book read aloud and they knew what it was about the significance of what occurred.I would highly recommend for every teacher to have a copy of this awesome book.

This is a beautifully designed and written book. It presents a meaningful and heavy topic in a palatable way for children -- the conversations and questions that are sparked after we read this book are priceless.

This is the kind of book I'm always so excited to buy. It has a great message about young people changing the course of history through nonviolence, the language is melodic and fun to read aloud, and the illustrations are dazzling. When I buy a book like this, I'm always nervous kids will reject it because it only actually appeals to adults. Not the case here! The first week we had it, my daughter asked to read it twice a day. Shortly after, on the anniversary of the sit-in detailed in the book, we saw a photo from it republished in a newspaper and she immediately identified it and was so excited.

I would recommend this book to any child. Especially, a minority child it is a great history lesson for them in the language understandable. I actually purchased one for my library. Lastly, the story is about my alma mater North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University
