This iron for it's price does a nice job.

I was attempting to solder two wires together in a bit of an emergency situation, this darn thing heated up quickly then arked very loudly and visibley. At this point I ran to unplug it and it lit on fire. Fortunately it was small and easily extinguished, I took it apart after it had cooled and found the cords had melted and came into contact as the heat sleeves were not in the correct place. I clipped everything out, and managed to torch solder it back together then wrapped both lines with kevlar thread. Ath this point it seemed to function long enough to get the job done (was soldering a wire in a gas tank, long story but obviously torch soldering wasn't an option). Well after that ordeal I took it apart again and found the cords were starting to melt at the point beyond the kevlar I had wrapped at the point where they became together.I guess I'm not surprised due to the price and fact that this literally came with nothing but the iron (no stand, no solder, ECT) again it was VERY, VERY inexpensive. My recommendation to the company in China would be simply this, use a bigger gauge wire!
