You'll never get bored of these songs.

A Nice Addition To Your Inu Yasha Collection
I really like the series, presented on the Cartoon Channel's "Adult Swim," so I was interested in getting something so frequently given a "five star" rating. This is a Japanese import so there is virtually no text in English to speak of. There is a very nice color booklet with the show's major "good" characters and a few of the lead villians. The individual scores are mostly very short, under two minutes. A few of them are listed as a separate track yet are under 10 seconds in length (the music leading into a commerical break)! A handful are longer than three minutes and one is over seven minutes. The standout in my mind is the show's closing song (which has vocals also).I would rank about 1/3 of the songs as outstanding. Standout tracks include "I AM (TV Size)," "Like a Storm," "Naraku's Treachery," "Struggle of Hatred," "Trap," "Sango Soaring to the Heavens," "Kikyo's Heart," and "Fukai Mori" (TV Size, translated as "Deep Forest" as I recall). I was disappointed a few of my favorite scores were not on the disk [I don't know their names but they appear early in the episodes that have appeared on "Adult Swim"]. Another 1/3 of the tracks are at least interesting and evocative of the show, and 1/3 are largely forgetable.Much like the first soundtrack this CD starts out with dramatic, sinister, and eerie tracks, transitions to more light-hearted fare, then changes back to the more dramatic scores again. It begins strong and finishes strong, but portions of the middle are a bit weak. Some of the tracks are little derivative, for example "Dearest (BGM Strings Version)" sounds like it was lifted from the Titanic movie soundtrack. It's also inferior to the piano version used on the DVDs. A couple of cuts, such as "Ryukosei Resurrected" have horn sections that recall those 1960s Japanese monster movies. Strangely, it does seem to fit, given the power of that particular villian. That all said, the most objectionable thing about this CD is the price. It's not a bargain, and I would never have paid the full price. I got it discounted and am glad more than ever that I did. A similar problem exists with the DVDs for the TV show. [Added later: you can find this CD for as little as 11.49 + 5.00 shipping at discount anime websites, so I don't know where this $50.00+ pricetag justifies itself].So, a very good to excellent soundtrack, very nice booklet, but losing a star for the reasons above.
