Our house is all about convenience. Two kids, two working parents, friends, family, pets, you know...the usual. We use a lot of convenience products and paper/plastic plates and utensils are some of them. When I had the chance to try something that is both convenient and good for the environment, I jumped on it. They are made from sugarcane fiber but feel like paper. They work great for sandwiches, burgers, chips, and other non-moist foods. They also work for moist foods like chicken breast, pork chops, fajitas, etc., but over a prolonged period, the moisture does start to soak into the plate. I didn't have any problem with break through except for greasy items. When using for fried foods or greasy pizza, you would probably want to double up or use a different, soak-proof option. You also wouldn't want to put a lot of heavy foods or over load the plate, because it is "paper" so like any other paper plates, it has it's limitations. But having a biodegradable/compostable bio-based option for a one-use product, I think this is the way to go!
