The Black Velvet Gown
I enjoyed this book. It had twists and turns and it was good to get to know the family. The Lord of the Manor was an unpleasant fellow.I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good read.

Excellant!
I started to read Catherine Cookson books in my twenties, I am now in my sixties and have started to read them all over again. As far as I am concerned nobody can write like she could, her work just flows and takes me on a journey with the characters. The Black Velvet Gown is no exception, it is excellant!

Incredible 30 years ago and enjoyed just as much today !
I first read this book over thirty years ago, and enjoyed it immensely then. Catherine Cookson is one of my favourite authors, not only because she tells such an amazing story, but the characters are so full of life, they become your family for a short while. Loved it ....

Another favourite
I am being very repetitive of my reviews of Catherine Cookson novels. But (sad I know) I love most of them. This is also one of my favourites and would recommend it to anyone who likes novels of this era. I won't spoil it with information. Just read it.

BLACK VELVET GOWN
Although I've watched films on tv this is first time I've read a Catherine Cookson I really enjoyed it. I got a real feel for the era thanks to the authors descriptive prose.
