so while the songs are easy in notes and rhythm generally speaking
Most beginner violin music is in the key of D (2 sharps) but there are only 2 songs that are in this book. Most of the other songs are in C (no sharps or flats). C-natural and F-natural are generally not learned right away, so while the songs are easy in notes and rhythm generally speaking, they are hard for a beginner violin. I would say this is more of an early intermediate book (at least for the violin)

Disappointed
If you are looking for a selection of the most obscure traditional melodies, badly arranged for violin and cello, then this book is for you. The technical difficulty level is below Grade 1, but the obscure and unpredictable melodies, and strained harmonies, made it a surprisingly difficult sight reading exercise for my two boys (both about to sit Grade 1). Shame, as I’d hoped this would provide a nice alternative for them to practise together. Will look around for something else.
