Student Owl Pellet Kit

My kids have never had so much fun playing with animal vomit
Recently did this with 3 kids aged 6-9 as a camp activity. They each got their own pellet and spent an hour digging through it and matching the bones to those described in the booklet. The booklet did a good job of explaining the science and provided some prompts for further discussion. So in addition to just being a fun opportunity to dig in vomit, the kids learned something about owls feeding and digestive habits. The pellets are sterilized, so afterwards, we put a toothpick in one of the leftover pieces and served it as hors d'oeuvres to a fellow camper.

Very well packaged
These came packaged well, the kids really enjoyed them. 4,6 and 16. They loved it so much. Great teaching experience for home schooled children. Thank you

Wonderful!
This is gonna be the greatest x-mas present for a little budding scientist! All the parts came as promised. One thing: after more research, I discovered that you can get different sizes of pellets (small, large, and x-large). The pellets that come with the kit are definitely "small", but still really cool. What counts is that the kiddo will be able to "dissect" a real owl pellet, and find bones!

Great Science Fun!
This arrived as expected with 3 medium sized heat sterilized pellets, a small plastic magnifying glass, a plastic tweezers, an instruction booklet, and a chart. This is a great activity to do WITH a child on a rainy or snowy day. I did this with my 4 year old nephew, we also read about owls and did owl art. We spent more than an hour dissecting one pellet and he loved figuring out what Mr. Owl had been feasting on. Great for home schoolers or any child with an interest in Science. I highly recommend this great product as both a teacher and an Auntie.

Neat little kit...
however, it didn't come with the magnifying glass as it was supposed to, but that wasn't why I bought this kit.My daughter did an owl pellet in a science center class I'd enrolled her in years ago. She didn't remember the class well and wanted to dissect another owl pellet.I found this kit - it came with 3 pellets (all sterilized) 2 probes, a small pamphlet/booklet about owls and what they eat and a chart of skeletons of their favored food. The chart was hard to read - tiny and very thin, faint lines. We were grateful to be able to get owl pellets again, but if you're relying on this to be an entire lesson, this wouldn't be for you unless you're willing to dig around on line and supplement this kit with a better bone chart, and whatever information on the animals you wish to add.For us, this served it's purpose because we've covered this already and we did a little extra research on line to add to this kit - It made for a nice refresher.

Fun summer activity!
I ordered this as a project to do with my 9 y.o. daughter. She had previously dissected owl pellets as a kindergartener, but I had never done it. We each found 2 skulls and lots of intact bones in our pellets and had a good time trying to identify them. The pellets were in good shape, yielded lots of bones, and the reference materials were good. I supplemented with some bamboo skewers and additional bone id charts from the internet and we enjoyed our morning.

Owl Kit with no owl pellets. FIXED
Received our kit today but there were no owl pellets included for use. Extremely disappointed kid at our house who was looking forward to this science project today. Hopefully the replacement kit will actually have pellets. Didn't even come in the box pictured or have the bone chart in the picture. I'm not sure what happened but we definitely didn't get what we ordered.UPDATE: Just received the replacement package and it had the 3 pellets as described this time. Still didn't come in the box in the description photo but at least I had all of the parts this time.

... we had ordered the large ones but to my delight we found 4 skulls in one pellet
I thought the pellets were a little small when we got them and wished we had ordered the large ones but to my delight we found 4 skulls in one pellet!! They were amazing. My 9 year old was easily bored with this but it could be her personality. My two older ones had the patience to gently dig through (13 and 16)

Owl pellets are fascinating and drew everyone into the activity.
Liked the kit and the kids had a great time dissecting the pellets. They also used the bone map and the tools. Did wish for a few more pellets.
