David Attenborough - Life on Air: Memoirs of a Broadcaster

Fantastic anecdotes
This is an unusual offering from Sir David, in so far as while a plethora of animals and plants (plus the odd fungi) hog a lot of the limelight, the book's really about his progress as a BBC executive and broadcaster. His brave decision to give up the arguably more comfortable role as head of BBC2 to wade through swamps, jungles and the like is erudite, charming, entertaining and informative. In that regard, it is exactly what you'd expect.

Great read
Excellent book with so much background to his many TV series and time at the BBC. The anecdotes about his various travels, particularly Zoo Quest, are so enlightening. I love travel books anyway so this is perfect. Having had the privilege of meeting him a few times I can say his writing style is exactly like his personality: often funny, interested, charming and unpretentious. I was introduced to the book from starting to read a friend's hardback copy. The hardback edition has several sections of illustrations, many in colour, but unfortunately the soft back edition only has two sections and none in colour. A deficiency not sufficient to mark it down to 4 stars though. There is a good index.

I like the content
I like the content, but the font is very small and difficult to read. I wish I'd bought a different version of this because it was for my elderly mother and she is not enjoying it the way I wanted her to.

Very fascinating read
Engrossed in each step of his career and his life. It’s so fascinating and a lovely covered book too. Well worth the money and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone buying a gift for someone interested in our planet’s wildlife and all living things.

What a life!
Got this disc for my father in law whom is blind. He loves Mr Attenbrough and even more so now. Thus is a great gift for him. 15 discs. Mr Attenborough narates the book as he shares his memoirs.

Fascinating, funny, and thought-provoking
A long, interesting book about a long, interesting life. This is not only an enthralling account of all the incredible creatures he has seen and things he has done, but also of the challenges of early television, the technologies that made those wonderful programs possible, and the extraordinary people he has known, all told with with wit, brilliant observations, and a profound respect for all life forms. There is not a drop of self-aggrandizement in this entire book. His lifelong study of other species seems to have made him an exemplar of his own.
