LIXADA120cm/ 4ft Kayak Safety Flag for Boat Canoe Yacht Dinghy

Does its job and is easily modifiable
I bought this flag as a DIY alternative to the YakAttack VisiPole series of safety flags... $90 for a flashlight on a pole with a little flag at the end yeah right!! However, after seeing the YakAttack flag I decided that two must-have features for me were a track mount base and a collapsible pole. At first I looked at cheaper alternatives (fiberglass and plastic flag poles) with the idea of DIY-ing a track mount base for them but all the reviews said these flags were incredibly flimsy. Then I came across this product which already came with a track mount base and was made of aluminum which should be sturdier. I received it in the mail today and can confirm the construction is solid... the aluminum tubes arrived straight and not bent and they all snap together quite positively with the internal bungee cord that runs through them. The track mount base seems solid enough and is certainly better than any kind of DIY track mount base I would have come up with. The flag (and retaining clip) that comes with this unit is cheesy as hell (only reason I'm rating 4 stars)... but that's not really a detractor for me because I expected this to be the case. I figure hi-vis flags are easy enough to come by so take your pick and mount it to this pole as you wish.Back to the YakAttack product... what it includes that this product does not is a visibility light. This was very easy to DIY by purchasing a small, lightweight, waterproof personal locator light (I went with the US Coastguard approved See Me 1.0 light for $10) and zip-tying it to the end of this flag pole. Seriously, that's it. I now have a functional clone of the $90 YakAttack VisiPole for $30 and 1 minute of effort.

A few seconds takes it from "Meh" to pretty good!
Out of the box, I see why it has some negative reviews. I got a regular pennant, not a right angle triangle, but I don't think I care. The flag is pretty chintzy, but that's easy to remedy. I see how people lost it. there is nothing in the base to support the bottom of the mast, so it will rock and could work out. I fixed this using a 19/64 drill bit, boring 2/3 of the way down into the base. Look down into the hole in the second picture and you can see what I did. Now, the bottom of the mast has a tight hole to secure it, and it doesn't rock anymore. I also removed the nut in the centerpiece, because it kept the base from engaging enough threads. 48 inches would be a benefit on a sit-in, or basic sit on kayak, but with my higher end pedal fishing kayak, I sit so high, the flag is even with my head. I bought this so my friends could see me when I'm off paddling tidal creeks, chasing red drum. A red hat on my head would be at the same height. I think I'll go to Lowe's, and see if driveway markers are the same diameter, but taller. Outside of those issues this thing is exactly what it's described as, and seems to function as intended. With a little Velcro strap, the shock corded mast can be stored inside my crate, when not in use.

Good idea, but very poorly executed and badly designed.
The pole is just fine. Works great, and very lightweight. The clamp interface for the pole to the mount also works great. Those are only parts of the system that are decent though. The mount itself, while plenty strong and sturdy, only has 2 screw holes, 180 degrees apart from each other. Boats move in 3 dimensions - side to side, up and down, and back and forth. With all this movement, the two screws aren’t enough to overcome the forces being imparted to the mount by the leverage of the pole whipping around. The mount eventually works loose and starts flopping around. The base should have at least 3, ideally 4, screw holes for attaching it to the boat. That would be enough to overcome the various leverage forces coming from the pole moving around.

Did not stay in its base
It seemed nice for the hour or so it was on my kayak. When next I looked back it was gone. The based was still firmly attached. The problem was the plastic nut, which had been screwed in securely as far as it would go, had worked its way loose from the swaying back and forth. Solution: $5 for a bicycle flag that I cut to the length I wanted with a leatherman and zip-tied onto my light post.

A great way to display your colors
I bought this for Talk Like a Pirate Day, September 19th. I changed the flag for one of my own and took it out on the lake. It stayed in place for a full day of paddling. I had to tie the flag in place with twist ties, however. Whenever you need to hoist the colors, this kayak pole is just the thing!

Great kayak flag!
The flag is a little smaller than I expected. But, the mount and everything else overall is great. I use the flag and pole to mount on the side of my kayak crate so other boaters can see me more visibly.

Perfect option for basic safety flag
If you don't need a light atop your flag, stop looking and just get this. Price is great, the thing holds together, its easy to insert and remove when transporting the kayak, and it is crazy light weight.

I dont recommend this product.
The flag pole is made from aluminium and is ok but any hit will allow it to disconnect from the others sections (3).The flag base mechanism to hold the pole is not quite well design allowing the easy pole come off from base. Even I hand tighten as much as possible. The pole deeping distance into the base is poor 2 inches, This allow the complete pole to easily came off, mine did it twice, without any chance to find it the second time. The red triangle flag is very small.

Flag lost first use
Appears to be a solid product. I mounted the base to my kayak for fishing in the ocean, however I lost the flag and pole the first time using it. The threads that screw into the base are not very secure and can easily be stripped out or pulled out.
