The flavor is not as strong as you think.
I Love it. Somehow a few years back I found myself with a couple bags of Lapsang Souchong . I always pushed it to the side, in favor of Irish breakfast tea . Finally the time came to try it. Smelled strange, but good. I brewed both bags together for 3 minutes and WOW what a delight!! I usually take a little sugar, honey or agave nectar and powdered creamer, but, this was good without adding anything. I could never remember what brand it was, so I have shopped around with some awful results. Thank goodness I got it right this time. My family thinks I have lost it. They hate the smell. I Love it. I add sweetener and creamer and close my eyes to enjoy the memories that the smell and taste evoke. I would say it is kinda like some cheese, smell is horrible but tastes so good. I will be reordering, soon because I grew mine 2 bags to a cup.

Smokey as advertised
Just a good basic black tea that is heavily smoked. The black tea provides sweetness, and the smoke evokes flavors that scream campfire. The smoke could be a bit overwhelming for some, but if you like Smokey Islay Scotch whisky, and you like tea, this may be for you. I like the well sealed individual pouches to preserve freshness and flavor. They make this a good portable tea for taking to work or for a cup of tea in a camp site.

Smokey...like drinking tea around a campfire!!
The value is great, cheaper than buying it in any store...if you can find this unique tea in a store! As for flavor, it has a very smokey flavor profile. Just like you were drinking black tea around a campfire & the smoke blows in your face. You'll either love it or hate it. My family loves it!

A very different syle of tea.
This tea can be hard to find, and was glad to find it on Amazon. It is very unique in that it goes through a traditional process used in China whereby the tea leaves go through a smoking process during the drying and curing stage. This results in a nice tea with a distinct smokey flavor. I actually only drink it rarely as a tea, but I use it regularly in cooking. The flavor makes for a great soup base or added to water used for cooking rice or sauteing vegetables, when you want a subtle smokey flavor to a dish. And being a tea, it's a very healthy additive too. Great uses all the way around.

It tastes like a fireplace.... seriously.
I LOVE Twining's tea and have tried many of their flavors. When I read that this was a stronger tea with a smoky flavor I was excited to try it. HOWEVER.... I was not prepared for the overwhelming smell of a campfire when I ripped opened the packet. It smelled overpowering, but I figured I'd at least brew it to give it a real try.Mistake.Not only did the flavor of a single sip stay in my mouth to the point of me having to brush my teeth, but my kitchen smelled like a fireplace for the rest of the day. My kids literally asked if I had burned something in the kitchen. It was awful!I have no idea how anyone could actually drink a cupful.I'll stick to Twinings tea, but not this flavor.

Smoked, but not flavorful
Very smokey flavor - like drinking a camp fire. Alas, it seemed to be smoked with charcoal, not wood. This may be my problem, not the tea's - I expected something more akin to wood-smoked anything, vs. the bottom of a fire pit.It gets four stars for the sheer smokiness - as advertised. For my personal tastes, it would be more a 2 or 3. I will trot it out now and again until it's out, but probably won't reorder it. I might try a higher-end lapsang souchong in the future.

The Scent is Horrible; Tastes GREAT Tho!
I came to Lapsang Souchong from that movie “Phantom Thread” (2017) with the dressmaker who meets his new muse, a waitress. I wondered what it was, ordered it, and now enjoy it! The tea is made by quick-drying Chinese black tea leaves in the method burning pine needles under them. This imparts a strange and wonderful taste to the brew (especially with some heavy cream). Do not sniff the tea—it’s scent is absolutely horrid. Enjoy!

All hail this smoked tea of pine needle delight
O grant me leave to sing praise of tea most fine,The smoked Lapsang Souchong with pine scent sublime.Steeped in its waters a smoky taste is brought,With hints of bonfire its flavor is wrought.A deep copper brew this leaf imparts,Its taste sets happily fire to my heart. Each warming sip brings comfort most dear,Chasing away winter's chill and drear. The piney notes upon my tongue do float,While down my throat its rich flavors are coated.A drink both robust and full of character,None can surpass this tea's flavor, I aver!So blesséd be Twinings for leaves so choice,Which stir up my soul and in me rejoice. This Lapsang Souchong shall always have my praise,For the wondrous joy which through me it conveys! All hail this smoked tea of pine needle delight,A restorative warmth for each winter's cold night. Its flavor unique shall ever be prized,By this happy bard who's singing is realized!
