The Walking Submissive Slaves?
No way The Walking Dead continues as "The Walking Submissive Slaves."Just finished Episode 4.Seriously, Rick is a let down. They could have forged the gun count and hidden over half. They could also have left Alexandria and moved back to the Prison to regroup. There are numerous alternatives besides living in the shadow of a psychopath. It is also hard to believe that not one person would have walked up behind Negan and blown his spine out of his stomach, before they took their guns, sacrificing themselves if need be, thereby cutting off the head of the snake. Maybe it's time for old Rick to take a back seat and let someone like Daryl take over. Rick can bake bread and sow the fields. But then maybe not. Season 3 where Daryl escapes was an OBVIOUS setup. That was just bad script--Daryl would never have fell for that.I seriously hope we won't be watching Rick and his crew bake bread for Negan's crew for the rest of the season, but if so, that's too long for me. For instance, the main problem with building up an enemy too much is that no amount of payback can make up for it. Remember the Guvna's final moment? How anticlimactic was that? Did that fulfill your need for some sort of retribution? Not me. I mean let's see:Raped Glens wifeMurdered his own peopleTortured GlenTortured the idiot blonde (well she deserved it)Terrorized the prison numerous timesKilled Maggie's dadThen in one episode, he gets killed quickly and that's it? No, man, that doesn't work for me. Too depressing. It's like this guy is on a sociopathic rampage of murder for 2 seasons, then gets a swift death? If the entire season is going to be watching Negan terrorize our people, naw, skip that for me. No amount of resolution/retribution/payback can make up for that sort of ongoing terror.Episode 7 Sing Me a SongI just witnessed perhaps the most awful, lazy and unbelievable scripting in the entire Walking Dead Franchise. So, Carl goes to Neegan's camp without a plan or a weapon, stowed away in a shipment truck, in the back. As the stop in camp, he "finds" a automatic rifle and some ammo. Whew, just in time--not! He then proceeds to shoot one of the people, and tell everyone, "I only want Neegan; no one else has to die. He killed my friends." LMAO. He then has Neegan in his cross hairs not more than 10 feet from him, and manages to hold the bead of the rifle on him for at least 10 seconds while Neegan walks around slowly talking, and CARL NEVER PULLS THE TRIGGER, but gets captured? I just about turned it off. I mean, people, here we have a great example of B script writing and B acting all rolled up into one dismal 20 seconds of incredibly unrealistic and stupid scene. This takes the cake.I mean, Carl would have to have been high on crack to pull something like that. It's just the poorest writing the show has ever suffered. It's so out of character and ridiculous that you don't even have enough belief to suspend.

Ahhh, gah - UPDATE - So Far, Post-Premier Episodes Are Excellent
Update - Final impressions for Season 7: it had its moments, good, bad, and kind of stupid. Ultimately, it moved the characters more than the plot, which can be good or bad, depending on your preference (I like it). It had plenty of action, violence, and gore, but ultimately, I don't think any major plot arcs resolved - instead, the drama is continuing to build.UPDATE: The mid-season premier was a totally different animal from the beginning. If you loved the first episode, you might not love the new start. On the other hand, if you left over the violence, it is probably safe to come back.Season 7 appears to be a jump off point, and it's a devastating indictment of getting comfortable and/or overconfident. The first real episode (not the recap/intro episodes) is so hard to watch, and the writer and producer have flat out stated that it is intended to break you - me - the viewer. For me, it accomplished that. The next day, I'm still beaten.Probably quite a few of the show's fans will decide not to go in the new direction. I'm still in for now. We'll see how it goes, though.Content warning for really graphic violence - even worse than "normal" Walking Dead.UPDATE: Assuming it keeps going the way it has been, I am in for the season. There are some really fine points being made about morality and acceptable behavior in a post-apocalyptic world.Episode 2 The Well has a much different feel to it. If you don't mind spoilers, I've discussed it a bit in in the comments.Episode 3 The Cell review with mild spoilers in the comments.Episode 4 Service - more spoilers in the comments.Episode 5 Go Getters - best one so far (unless the premier was your thing)Episode 6 Swear - another bottle episodeEpisode 7 Sing Me a Song - Negan gets fleshed outEpisode 8 Hearts Still Beating - delivered some emotional payoffComments to this review contain spoilers.
