The very tips of the tweezers touch evenly, with a gap between everything else.... and when squeezed together enough, the flat surfaces of the ceramic tips DO mate-up with one another, completely and evenly. **These are "TWEEZERS"... NOT PLIERS!** Excessive force will snap the tips! Dropping them onto a hard surface very well may snap the tips as well. Also, the ceramic tips are NOT textured, so they are somewhat slick... not too grippy. These wont hold onto really tiny screws easily, they basically have a niche purpose and work excellent for that which they were designed! Adjusting a semi-delicate red hot metal coil? CHECK! I had read reviews saying these don't work for tweezing hairs, but that's how I discovered the misaligned tips. I simply loosened the screws a little on one tip, pinched the very tip into alignment, tightened the screws, and voala, I have 2 eyebrow again. They work so well that my fiance and grandmother each took one.
