Sentence Diagramming Reference Manual: How To Diagram Anything

I was starting to learn New Testament Greek, but very quickly realised that I needed to understand the basics of grammar first. A bit of searching brought me to Elizabeth's website (English-Grammar-Revolution.com). I have since bought all of her grammar resources, and I am now addicted to sentence diagramming! She is an amazing teacher and explains everything from first principles to complex concepts. I now know my bare-infinitives from my dangling-participles, and my subordinating conjunctions from my emphatic appositives, and I'm ready to get back to the Greek! This reference book is perfect for refreshing your memory of grammar - I already had the digital version and am buying the print version too. If you want to learn grammar, go no further and buy this book.

You learn a lot how English language works and it is a good way to learn grammar.

On it's own it is confusing as to the method of 'diagramming' and I would therefore recommend buying the 'introduction to sentence diagramming' as well, so as to have an explanation on how it is done. I am unsure as to whether I would use the reference manual on a frequent basis though and would err on the side of 'not a lot'.

I am learning foreign languages and I have some trouble with the grammar explanations, so I turned my focus to understanding English grammar, after reading up on plenty of websites and books I stumbled across Elizabeth's website.So impressed with the free lessons and exercises I had to purchase the books, both this and the Sentence Diagramming Exercises.This manual describes diagramming and grammar in more detail than the Exercise book sold separately. The exercises do work as a complete book on their own, consisting of lessons and exercises, however this manual does then go into further detail. I can imagine this book being rather confusing on it's own, and I would recommend it's use either alongside or after the Exercise book.I find myself using this reference manual less than it's counterpart but is an invaluable resource to have. Elizabeth writes clearly, describes everything with such ease you are not dumbfounded after, other grammar books I have tried leave me looking up something else after to gain complete understanding, but not here. After using the two books I felt an understanding for English I have never seen before, and I have begun to see my foreign languages in a new light too.If you can only afford one of the two books, I recommend you purchase the Exercises first, then progress to this book, but both are invaluable resources and clearer than you think.

I have a number of resources to which I turn when trying to break down complex diagramming challenges (esp. Bible passages). This is by far the most usable--the table of contents and index help me to quickly find a section addressing my problem, and the many examples of diagramming allow me to skim the content to locate the specific construct I need.The resource is truly remarkable, for, although it is in-depth enough to be helpful with difficult diagramming, it is completely clear and usable--truly, if I were teaching grammar to young children or adults who were afraid of grammar, I would by all means try the curriculum by the same author.If I had any "wishes" for the next edition, it would be that the many word lists from "[...] " were included in the book. Thankfully, they are easily accessible on the website.Thank you, Elizabeth O'Brien, for bringing your skill and enthusiasm into the world of grammar! Grammar is essential to truly breaking down sentences and discerning the intended meaning of the author, and you have made it much more accessible.

I went to a Catholic school and began to diagram in the fifth grade. It has served me well as I spent part of my career as a professional proofreader. When in doubt as to case or syntax, I strongly recommend learning this skill. I bought this book as a refresher course, and it not only filled me with nostalgia, it also helps clarify the occasional gray area.

I never learned the parts of speech since I have a learning disability, and this manual has helped me understand more clearly, parts of speech and I'm beginning at the lowest level. I'm not struggling as much when I write. My sentence structure makes more sense.
