Great For Archival Storage
I use this mechanical drive in a hot swap bay as removable storage to periodically backup my data. My system has two identical 8TB NVME m.2 drives with one automatically mirroring to the other once per day as security against having an unrecoverable hardware problem. The removable drive is protection in case the whole system is lost.

Defective right out of the box.
This drive was defective. It would not initialize connected to two Macs and a Linux PC. If shows zero size. This is the second WD drive that had this problem. The last one was a 6TB drive I bought last year. I returned both of them. I see others had this problem too. The box was also banged up and had a partially peeled off Amazon label. Instead the box was sealed as from the factory.

VERY IMPRESSED SO FAR
I just returned the Seagate IronWolf Pro 12 TB because it was making a weird noise while writing. It sounds like a kid bouncing a basketball on the driveway next door. So I bought this Western Digital 12TB WD Blue Internal Hard Drive HDD to take its place. I'm extremely happy with the performance so far. I'm currently transferring data from my old drive to the newly partitioned Western Digital 12TB WD Blue Internal Hard Drive HDD and see that it's writing at around 173 MB/s. That's a pretty impressive speed. I am occasionally hearing the traditional noises associated while it's writing, but nothing to be alarmed about. I've always been a fan of WD drives, but bought the Seagate first just to save a little money. Seagate also has a good reputation, but not as good as Western Digital. I also like that the Western Digital 12TB WD Blue Internal Hard Drive HDD has a 512MB cache, versus the 256MB with the Seagate. UPDATE: I just finished transferring all of my data from the older drives to the Western Digital 12TB WD Blue Internal Hard Drive HDD with no problem at all. The WD drive appears to be performing admirably and I'm very impressed so far.

This was disappointing: two drives DOA.
The first one I bought gave me cyclical redundancy errors; never would start initialization. It was visible in BIOS, just didn’t know the size or anything else about it other than the model number. Contacted Amazon and they refunded once I returned it. Thinking it was a fluke, I bought a second one. With that one, I hit A different wall. It would start the initialization, but after 20 seconds it kept telling me: drive not ready. Slightly better than the first one…sigh. I tried connecting the two drives via PCle, an external docking station via USB3, and then through a Terramaster DAS. No joy with lots of time lost. They were never visible to Windows Explorer. Disk Management could see them, but had troubles as outlined earlier. I thought it was my PC as I just purchased a new Windows 11 PC and thought maybe this new OS is kind of fluky. With fruitless research and no Win10 PCs, I bought two Seagate 8TB BarraCudas. Everything went smoothly: formatted GPT NTSF everything’s fine. It wasn’t my PC. Made me think that Amazon is sitting on a bad batch of 12TB Western Digital drives; maybe they were returns like the two that I just made or maybe it was just a bad day at the factory. Who knows? Through the decades of computing I’ve been going back and forth between Western Digital and Seagate. This latest episode is pushing me back into the Seagate camp.

Space is little less the what it says
Mind you when you buy this 10.9 TB are available out of the 12 TB. Although the download speed forgives it it's very nice. Would most likely buy again
