Not a cookbook I will be keeping
I was excited for a chance to try this cookbook, as I'm somewhat of an impulse buyer when it comes to cookbooks. I have a large-ish collection, and I tend to read them like storybooks. I also love to use my crock pot, particularly on nights that I and my husband both work and the kids have sporting events. Sadly, this cookbook is not one I will keep in my collection.I have a personal policy that I have to try at least three recipes before I can write a review about a cookbook. I have tried three recipes and will not try another. Only one recipe turned out decent. I made, in order, the Italian Chicken Fajita Wraps, Steel Cut Oatmeal, and Amish Filling. Here is the breakdown of the three...1. The Italian Chicken Fajita Wraps had great flavor, though the chicken dried out terribly. There was also a little bit of concern about cooking the chicken pieces in the marinade mixture, after 2 of us got sick. Could have been the flu, truly don't know.2. The Steel Cut Oatmeal was terribly bland, and that was *after* I used less water and more apple cider and apple than called for. Neither child would eat it.3. The Amish Filling was probably the worst. It was also very bland, though the chicken cooked up beautifully. This was after I added some dried thyme (as per the suggestion) and used a little bit of wine to make up the difference when I ran out of chicken broth. It was also *extremely* moist. As in - smushy. I thought it was going to be more like stuffing, but it was just...wet. One child thought it was pretty good, the other probably won't go near it again. And it was a lot of work to put together!I don't mind doing extra work to make a good meal in a crock pot, but this book just doesn't cut it. I would be highly surprised if I ever use it again.

Less use of canned soups!
When looking for a slow cooker book I wanted one that used less canned soup (cream of mushroom, etc.) and used healthier options. I like this book for a number of reasons. First, almost every recipe has a picture, this is great for me as I tend to pick food by how yummy it looks and often I have trouble visualizing what a recipe will be just from the words. Second, in some recipes she will give you options to change some ingredients. Third, I like that the book is sectioned into chicken/turkey, meatless, breakfast, etc. Fourth, I like that she tells you the ideal slow cooker size for each recipe, this makes it helpful to tailor the recipe to fit in your crockpot (especially if it is smaller). Fifth, I like that in this book she uses real ingredients and less open cans and dump in. Finally, one of my favorite features is part of the index is sectioned for "quick and easy" which are recipes that you can put together and get into the crock pot in about 10 or 15 minutes. This is useful if you know you will be short on time to do prep work. I would recommend this book to someone who is looking for a good number of recipes that are a bit healthier.

Meat recipes strong, but others weak & pointless
Strengths: the meat-based recipes.Weaknesses: reliance on prepackaged or canned ingredients like cream of mushroom soup, boxed pudding mix, cornflakes, prepared spinach dip, packet of onion soup mix. Vegetable section, many recipes use cooked or canned vegetables which you dump into slow cooker and cook for 2-6 hours (Baked Corn, Stewed Tomatoes) after your prep time.Craziness: Some simple recipes that take 9 hours to cook (Dilly Mashed Potatoes with Spinach) or 6 hours to cook when using cooked ingredients (Super Delicious Mashed Potatoes) or 8-10 hours without any meat (Sweet Potato Pudding). A recipe that uses ALL canned fruits, takes up to 8 hours before cooking “for flavors to blend,” then 4 hours cooking (Curry Fruit Mix). Quick bread that takes 3-4 hours in the cooker.Failures: Anything in a slow cooker that requires you to check it every 20 minutes. many recipes missing picture. No pictures labeled. Inconsistent picture placement so no way to figure out which picture goes for which recipe. 99% of pictures labeled. Incorrect page breaks in ebook so recipes do not start on new page. Bad organization, breakfast, appetizers and snacks after all meat dishes which dominate book.I thought this book was self published by an amateur until I read the author BIO. I can’t believe any of this author’s books were bestsellers. Shame on author and publisher. If I’d paid full price, I’d be so mad. Since I got it on sale for $1.99, I’ll live with it. I would not recommend this book if pressed.

... have looked around for a year now for the best slow-cooker cookbook
I get things from Amazon for years aI have looked around for a year now for the best slow-cooker cookbook. I was about to give up as the results of the recipes I tried were only fair. This cookbook is amazing!!! I tried Mexican-Supper-In-A-Crock and it was better than going out to any restaurant...five stars! This cookbook has a full-page picture for just about every recipe which helps as they suggest what to garnish it with or even what goes with it. Very easy recipes. The only slow-cooker cookbook I need. I have been a customer from Amazon forever and never sent a review on anything...this is my first review. I just had to share with someone how wonderful this cookbook is!

This is the best slow cooker cookbook I have found
This is the best slow cooker cookbook I have found. I have several others, but this one is superior to all the rest. It has recipes that can give the appearance of a casserole. All of my other slow cooker cookbooks have all of the ingredients mixed together like stews and soups. I checked this cookbook out at my local library and after trying a couple of recipes I decided to buy one for myself. I got on Amazon and found it at a great price. I choose one that was damaged. When I received it, all was wrong was a slight indentation on the spine of the book. A very good value and a great cookbook.
