It is much faster than the fastest SD cards and is a more robust card less likely to be damaged. Most professional work does not require two cards - it requires two separate cameras. Usually shooting in backup mode slows down the camera unacceptably, so it is not used for critical work that needs a fast frame rate. Pricing of XQD cards is about the same as equivalent size UHS-II SD cards and often cheaper - even though XQD cards are 50% faster.
