Medieval: Total War Gold Edition - PC

I could not get this to run on Windows 7 even after trying to run in in administrator mode for windows xp. I even tried downloading the Microsoft compatibility toolkit that has gotten other old games to work on my windows 7 machine but it didn't work for this one. I've played it in the past and its a great strategy game where you can actually see individual soldiers, spearmen, pikemen, knights in the battle formation fighting. The diplomacy is a bit simplistic and lacking but I keep coming back to this game when I'm tired of other games. But if you have a newer computer expect to spend some time getting it to play, if it will play at all. After I couldn't get this to work I downloaded it from Steam and it plays fine.

good game! great fun for an older game well worth 20 bucks for a total war fan. had a few problems getting it to work on new win 7 laptop but a quick copy and paste of certian files fixed it in a heartbeat. otherwise works good alot of fun and well worth the money. i would buy it again.

I really can't objectively rate this since it was a gift for a family member and I really haven't been given and positive or negative feedback.

Now, MTW2 and Rome are my favorites... but MTW1 has a golden place in my heart.This game is good. It's old, but it is solid and balanced and just amazing.Pros:1. Just enough micro-management to whet your appetite and not a drop more.2. Battles, while inferior to later titles, are still quite fun!3. Want to start small? No prob. Want to start as an empire? Welcome to Byzantium. Tons of different ways to play.4. The campaign manages to be a lot like learning English and playing bass: it's easy to learn but hard to master. You can get in, do some damage, piddle about and have fun... but being serious and thoughtful pays huuuge dividends. This game rewards a careful planner abundantly. Beyond that... it's just challenging. I love the other games, but this one had the campaign I love the best.Cons:1. Its age is showing a bit. Some people don't like that.2. Viking Invasion campaign is NOT balanced. Tiny island nations on Britain end up with ridiculously huge piles of wealth and troops and the game can get out of hand and too much to handle.

Before you buy any game go on youtube and see the video's of the game you want to buy to see if you like it I bought this RTW gold edition big mistake thought it was going to great based on the trailer video. try looking for the Rome total Total War or/and total war barbarian invasion their pretty good but go see on youtube and judge for your self.

I like games that can keep you playing for hours and hours but still keep you riveted which is hard to do, but this game is so riveting that you will not the time go by.I was waiting for my flight to take me to germany and had time to kill so I started to play this game, when I looked at my watch it was about 1 in the afternoon and in what seemed like a little bit I looked at my watch again it was 6:30 in the evening I did not notice the time just going flying by.Now I know their are newer games on the market and I have played some of them but hardley any of them can keep my interest like this game still can, so if you want a game that will fun and a challege then buy this game while you still can.

It doesn't work with windows 7. I wish it was more clear on that in the descriptions seeing as how most people have window 7 or 8. Glad it was cheap because it was a waste of money.

Medieval Gold Edition (MGE) is better than the original MTW. One of my biggest pet peeves with MTW was the inability to see what reenforcements were available. MGE has a pre-battle display that wasn't in MTW that lets you pick and choose your reenforcements and gives you a better viewing of the opposition (if you have spies or watch towers) Units are twice the size of MTW but also cost twice as much. But includes a lot of new units.Viking Invasion is pretty good but lacks there are no RIVERS preventing bridge slaughtering. that's a bummer. I love lining archers and catapults on a bridge and blowing the opposition away.
