101 Chicken Keeping Hacks from Fresh Eggs Daily: Tips, Tricks, and Ideas for You and your Hens

I’ve been reading books on raising chickens. I’m in the process of setting up a coop and then getting some chicks. I want to know as much as I can before I even purchase my first chick. This book is great!! I can’t say enough good things about it. It’s written in a way that’s fun, easy and informative. The pictures are delightful. I have a feeling this is going to be one of my favorite “go to” books!!

I love reading Lisa Steele's "Fresh Eggs Daily" for tips on chicken keeping as well as photos of Maine, which is so very different from my own environment in Oakland CA! "101 Chicken Keeping Hacks" follows the same spirit with gorgeous photos and print layout along with pages of tips on topics like: repelling mice , homemade electrolytes for heat exhaustion (yes, that is a very real danger to CA chickens), and recipes for things like natural easter egg dyes (the book would make a great easter basket gift!) , and making herbal mite spray. The author is a many generation chicken keeper with an old fashioned American DIY spirit. I am a 15 year urban keeper with little DIY capability but we are united by our love of puttering around with the hens outside (well, on my end, that means watching the hens dig up the garden). Lovely book. Ten stars!

This book is a great go to for ideas and recipes for my girls. The author is fun and knowledgeable.

Great book for chicken lovers. Lisa Steele apparently knows her stuff when it comes to backyard chicken farming. I bought this book for my daughter who is planning to raise chickens. As I thumbed through the book, I became so interested that I kept the book (for a few days) to read myself. There is so much good info here. My daughter loved the book so much that she went and bought more books by this author and follows her Fresh Eggs Daily blog.

For a book that is titled 101 chicken keeping hacks, it didnt really seem like there were that may hacks laid out within the book.

I LOVE this book! My husband & I just bought a hobby farm which came with a 2 year young chicken coop with a huge fenced in chicken run, so naturally I'd like to raise my very own chickens. I've never done that before so Lisa Steele is my "go to girl" for learning all I need to know in order to raise happy & healthy chickens. I appreciate how easy to follow her techniques & recipes are. I'm a "thrifty/repurpose" kind of girl & so is Lisa. She gives great gardening tips as well. I rate this book 5++ stars as it's an easy/fun read & makes me happy. :) Thank you Lisa for passing along all your knowledge as you have a faithful follower & promoter here in north-central Wisconsin.

There are SO MANY good little tips in this book. I've only made it through the first few chapters and I'm already implementing several of the hacks; like the home made layer feed recipe (instead of purchasing in large quantities, I made a smaller amount in parts instead of by pound). I'm already noticing a difference in my chicken's yokes. I made the window/glass cleaner and I'm using it in my house too because it really works amazingly - works on my bathroom mirror too! I have a fly spray brewing as we speak and my chickens have enjoyed several herbal teas already. I can't recommend this book enough. It is worth it, even if you have 10 other chicken books. this book is gold.

Such great ideas in here! Another must have book from Lisa :) I have learned so much from her books in raising healthy happy chickens and this one is full of recipes, coop ideas, fun chicken projects..list it goes on. The recipes alone are incredible! Great book!!

Great information, especially if you want to raise your backyard flock to be healthy and strong on a natural diet. I’ve just started raising chicks and it’s the only book I’ve bought. Full of great ideas and recipes for treating your chickens naturally.
