The top of the pole where hook is the securing cap was screwed on incorrectly (cross threaded) needed to use it so kept it. I tried to unscrew however could not loosen.

I used this for a full season now and I like it a lot. We hunted over some small back waters that have that nasty, pull your boots off, deep sucking mud. I don't like walking around in it even in my chest waders. This pole helped me stay out of it and gave me 18' of reach. I even used it to have my partner pull me out of the mud in one bad spot I was dumb enough to attempt to retrieve a bird from. The hook is plenty big enough to grab a decoy neck or cord. It is very tough and the sections pull out and lock wellSo why the missing star? A few things that I found that were troublesome for me:I am not an Olympic Pole Vaulter...and 18' of aluminum waving around in the air is not light as well as a bit awkward. I would love to see this as carbon fiber. This also goes for packing it in. Even collapsed, it is a bit long to strap to me decoy bag.When I received mine, the pin to retain the hook was missing. I didn't know it was missing until I found the hook missing as well. Luckily, this happened in the back of my truck and not in the field. Really easy to make a replacement for it and we were back in business.The paint is shiny and comes with wonderful red and white labels. It doesn't exactly look like Darth Vader's light saber sitting in the bushes but I think a simple change color/paint choices would make it a bit less conspicuous.

It gets decoys so hey it works.

Where we hunt ducks there are spots of mud that will suck the wadders right off your feet. It's too shallow to float a boat. This 18'er can realy reach out. Instead of trying to walk out and get those birds, we use this retriever. Seems to be well made and will probaly last a lifetime.

Very sturdy and works great picking up decoys. My last decoy pole was a different brand (can’t remember what) and it had a much better hook. If the hook on this was a little more streamlined it would allow you to retrieve ducks as well.

Product was more robust than what I expected and what I had before from a different manufacturer.
