First review of these Ross and Simon's floating opal drop earrings. The earrings are very pretty but was not exactly what I was expecting. To be fair, I did not read product info which explains that the earrings are pieces of natural cut opals inside a smooth glass drop. So these are not a solid cut opal. The advertised pictures are not that accurate. I tried to capture this in the photos but the camera makes it difficult as it reflects the opal. Unlike the advertised photos, the earrings do show a good amount of clear glass, it's not all opal. The opal is naturally settled on the bottom and sides of the drop. However, the earrings are beautiful and unique. I appreciate natural opal opposed to simulated opal which is more commonly used. These are a gift for my mom who loves opal and has been wanting opal earrings with a slight dangle. I feel my mom will really love this jewelry. The european clip is very comfortable and these clips are my favorite because the back is smooth and the clip is very secure. I did not like the packaging that much despite being nice quality because the earrings are just tossed in a soft bag inside a box. I would rather have the earrings displayed when the box is open. The bag is nice for storage though. I deducted one star for product packaging and that the description/photos were somewhat unclear. I would still purchase these again and if ever avaliable in white gold would purchase a pair for myself. Shipping was great, came a day early and just in time for mother's day. If you like the pictured style get these and you will be happy. Update: I had to update my 4 star review to a 5 star because these earrings are gorgeous. I was stunned to find out that the opal pieces actually slowly float in the glass drop and slowly move when in motion. When the opals settle at the bottom the clear glass which shows is simply beautiful. My mom absolutely loved these earrings. I want a pair now. This product exceeded my expectations. I would gladly purchase from Ross and Simons in the future. Update: glass drop is glass and extremely delicate. My mom was so sad that one of the glass drops broke and left jagged shards by her ear. She had them maybe 2 weeks. I'm not sure what happened. She said she didn't drop them and has no ideal how they broke. She was really disappointed. They were very beautiful. Take extra care with this set. I wouldn't recommend leaving them in for extended periods or sleeping/bathing with them which with real gold you should be able to do but the drop is just to delicate with this set. Update: Ross and Simmons is an outstanding company. They corrected the situation. The earrings are stunning. I highly recommend this company as they stand behind their product and care about customer satisfaction.

The earings are very nice and what I expected although they are a bit small. The stone chips are more milky white than fire colored which would make them more desirable.I read many reviews which talked about an eating being broken, but ordered them anyway. I too had that problem and one was broken so I'm in the process of returning them, but I will re order.Might want to change your packaging...add a small foam insert into the box or stabilize the earrings so they dont get jostled around.Update! Round 2..received my reorder today and they were just fine! Individually wrapped too so they didnt touch and break. Love them.

One of my favorite cousins just turned 50. I used to tell her that she was a "pearl of a girl." I wanted to give her something special for her 50th birthday. These earrings were not too big or gaudy - or pearls - but were full of light and made with real gold. She told me that she loved them, and I believe that she will wear them for special occasions, so I am happy with my purchase.

I have not yet decided to keep these. They are surely beautiful and well made, yet I misunderstood what they meant by "floating." Think mini snow globes. Tiny Opal chips are encased in small glass or crystal balls, floating in a liquid of some sort. If you're not a runner or constant head-bobber, the tiny chips settle on the bottom half of each ball. Periodic rotating will be necessary. The tiny Opals are sparkly, though.

Years ago I found a beautiful antique floating opal necklace to replace the one my wife had worn in high school. I have searched ever since for quality earrings to compliment the necklace she loves to wear. Ross-Simons ended my search with these beautiful 14k gold floating opal earrings. I am a long time buyer and appreciator of Ross-Simons work and product. The clown show, junior high, no jewel, all plastic product that I received from Ross-Simons should embarrass them. It embarrasses me so much that I cannot present to my wife for Christmas this Ross-Simons product. I need to go to the mall jewelry stores last minute because of Ross-Simons. The "jewell" is plastic with some weird mix of garbage in the bottom. Embarrassing is the word of the day... for Ross-Simons and for you is you present this gift. These comments come from a Ross-Simons fan and long term customer. No more. Don't trust Ross-Simons now. Avoid Ross-Simons if you can.

The opal shards inside the glass bulbs are not as described. They are not floating in liquid. Mine are stuck to the glass bulbs like they are melted there. Very very poor quality. Not worth the money!!!!!

I've purchased other jewerly from Ross-Simons & have always been happy. This purchase fell a little short. The floating opals didn't have much color/ brillance; just white in color. I expected better quality opals. The gold settings are beautiful but the opals were disappointing.
