Beautiful Clock, looks better in person than it does online!
This really is a nice clock. Made mostly of what appears to be real wood, it is very elegant. It seems that they did not skimp anywhere on this time piece! Even the individual 1-12 numerals are individual "gold numerals" and NOT just "printed on a dial".(Gold color, not real gold I assume) The clock keeps very good time and the batteries last for many months so it is also very efficiently designed. This is my second one (this one is a gift) so I have had the first one for about a year and it is still on the first battery. You can control the volume and you can deactivate the chimes at night if that is your thing. You have 2 different chime sound options. It is very easy to set, just put it to the correct time and it chimes the right amount of times. You don't need to "synchronize" it or wait at every hour like older clocks (well...I didn't and it works like clockwork...pun intended). It is a bit of a hassle to turn the hands with the small "gear" in the back but you shouldn't have to do it but a handful of times over the life of the clock so not such a big deal. The bottom line is: This is a high quality, very expensive looking, wooden clock made my Seiko so you are buying into proven quality and I feel like they delivered. It looks and feels more expensive than it is (IMO). It keeps very good time. It DOES NOT suck the life out of batteries like low quality clocks, it is somewhat flexible in sounds meaning you can choose from 2 different chimes, you have control over volume and you can kill the sound altogether if you choose. If you want something made of wood, built nicely, with the old fashioned sounding Westminster chimes then this is definitely worth the price Amazon is asking.

BEAUTIFUL
BEAUTIFUL!!! In every way this clock is beautiful. The clock face has scroll work, the penduleum has raised / embossed scroll work, the glass front has a lovely gold border and the reed columns have brass details. It fits perfectly between two windows, please note the smaller size when you order. It has an adjustable volumn control and the tone is very soothing. You can't go wrong with the clock.

Excellent Quality & Beautiful
Such a lovely clock and well made. If there would be one way to improve upon it, I would say they need to make more of these clocks that allow you to access the hands from the front, instead of taking the clock off the wall twice a year when daylight savings time starts or ends. I love the chimes and the dark wood matches my decor perfectly

Beautiful but not fully functioning
It's a beautiful clock and seems to keep good time, but the pendulum doesn't work in mine. Specifically, it will swing back and forth but it won't keep going - it stops after a few minutes. There doesn't seem to be any indication in the instructions as to how to deal with this. The speaker is tinny sounding, but the controls for the speaker volume and choice of melodies work well. I guess I just got a dud. If you want a beautiful clock - and you get one that works correctly - this is a good choice. UPDATE 7/9/15 I figured out what was wrong with my pendulum. After examining the back mechanism for a while, I realized that the black plastic piece has a coil at the bottom that is supposed to be producing a magnetic charge opposite one that should be on the front of the top of the pendulum. There was no magnet on the pendulum, however, and that's why it would lose momentum. I think it was supposed to ship with a magnet on the black plastic piece at the top of the pendulum. Fortunately, I had some very small, thin magnets with good power that I stuck on there. The pendulum now continues to swing as it was supposed to. So to summarize - if your pendulum doesn't swing with a new battery in it, put a thin (but fairly strong) magnet on the black plastic piece at the top of the pendulum. If you have the magnet there and it doesn't swing, change the battery (it powers the coil that creates the opposing charge to push your magnet and pendulum). Since the clock works with a simple fix, I upgraded from three stars to four - not five, though, because it needed that fix.

Centerpiece of my home.
I have had it for a few weeks and it is one of the most satisfying purchases I have made. The clock is the highlight of my home. The wood color is somewhere between a walnut and subtle cherry. The gold numbers and face decorations are raised, there are detailed designs on the wood front. The clock has the option of two different chime tunes, one the traditional Westminister heard in large park bell towers and England, the other another traditional one. It chimes every 15 minutes, with 1/4 of the tune at the 15 and 45 minutes position, 1/2 the tune at the 30 minute position, and the full tune on the hour with associated number of chimes. The friend who set the clock up for me adjusted the clock volume per my request to chime soft enough so as not to interfere with the television, yet still be audible. It is programmed to stop chiming between 10:45 pm and resume at 6:00 am. The pendulum is silent and moves back and forth inside the glass case. Beautiful clock with substantial quality that people are taken aback by when they see it.

Beautiful Pendulum Clock
Our previous pendulum clock fell off the wall. So we had to replace it and found this one. We are so happy with this clock. It came with its own hangar, which ended up being really nice because of the type of hanging system that is on the back of the clock. It sits really well in that hanging system. Making us feel confident that it will not fall off the wall. It chimes on every quarter hour. Which took a little time getting used to, but we really do like it with that feature. Add the quarter hour at times 4 times at the half hour. At times eight times at the three quarters hour at times twelve times and on the full hour at times sixteen times and then does the bell toll for the hour number. It seems quite excessive except for most of the time you don't even end up hearing it because you are busy with other things. It also comes with a feature that keeps it silent at night.

Beautiful clock that keeps time, but no chime and pendulum doesn't work
The appearance and finish of this clock are really nice. And it does keep good time. However, neither the chime nor the pendulum work. As to the chime, it sounded off when I was setting it, but it hasn't made a sound since. I have adjusted the volume several times but still no sound. Not that I'm disappointed, because I didn't buy it for the chime and wasn't really looking forward to hearing it go off every 15 minutes. But if I had bought it for the chime, I would be disappointed. As to the pendulum, when you first start it up it will swing for a few minutes, then stop, never to start again. I have a new battery; makes no difference. I also tried the "magnet" hack that another reviewer said worked for him, but that didn't work. This certainly is disappointing because part of the charm of a pendulum clock is to actually have the pendulum swinging instead of hanging there limp. For a clock that costs over $300.00, everything about it should work, but this one does not. Too much of a hassle to return it so I'm going to keep it and try not to pay attention to the pendulum. Seiko is an established and respected brand. They should put out a better product than this, especially for the price. Maybe I just had bad luck with mine, but I have seen an alarming number of reviews expressing the same problems I've had. Due to these problems I can't recommend it.

I'm not impressed
I wanted to love this clock as my antique clock which looks similar to this has lost its will to live, even though it's been cleaned and "fixed" by two clock specialists. However, there's no comparison to the real deal in this replacement clock. The clockworks themselves are made of nothing but plastic with knobs so tiny for adjustments that it's difficult to set to the preferred settings. There's a couple little switches to select and a time wheel that's almost impossible to move the hands with. The sound isn't a deep rich tone like my old clock. It's a bit brassy. I haven't determined if the pendulum is supposed to swing since getting it mounted on the wall first means you can't get into the back of the clock to start the pendulum. You can't open the face of the clock, just the back. All in all, if you've never experienced a wind-up clock from days gone by, you won't be impressed by this one. I'm disappointed and will be returning.
