Read Once For Enjoyment, Second Time To Analyze
Funny play! I enjoyed reading it. It gives an insight into Athenian culture. Fairly easy to read. Enjoyed it even thought it was a required book. Second go through necessary for better understanding of the book itself.

Amazing Classic and Most Relevant Today
It is sad that I was not introduced to this classic in my early studies. But today, it holds so much value and beauty. The arguments it covers, the logic it proposes, and the clarity of being are remarkable.

These clouds are not very pretty.
The book did have some interesting information to offer. For instance I never knew that theater people routinely made fun of philosophers like Plato. And they made fun of government and authority over 2000 years ago. Also they used a lot of potty humor in their productions. Thats ok , some people think potty humor is funny. But I couldn't manage to get through the book. I don't personally enjoy that kind of humor. It's used by people who don't have imagination and are not clever enough to come up with something funny. I think the book was boring .

Great classic read. Best if read in Greek though
I'm trying to read more classics, and Clouds was on the list. Enjoyable work, especially the conversation between the just and unjust causes.

Must Read
Classical Greece at its best. Now that the schools have dropped the ball, we must educated ourselves. Aristophanes is a writer from thpusands of years ago but so very contemporary. Timeless.

good translation, poor story
a faithful rendition of a Greek comedy. That being said if you come into the experience expecting a great deal of wit and clever remarks, or a highly polished comedy, you will be disappointed. While this is one of the more clean works that is available, it is still largely made up of genital jokes, fart jokes, and dirty puns. however that is the nature of Greek comedy and I cannot, and do not, fault the interpreter for this. my rating is more towards the story itself and not the translation. Does it have some genuinely funny moments in it? Yes. Is it worth reading the entire thing to experience those few moments? Not for me, some people really enjoy this play, but unfortunately I am not one of them.

A contemporary and interesting translation of Aristophanes' Clouds targeted at stage production
An interesting spin on the Clouds and one targeted at modern audience without necessarily having any experience of Aristophanic or Greek Drama. This source-text orientated translation owes much to Alan Sommerstein's earlier academic translation and the two provide an interesting contrast both into the work of the translator and the requirements of different audiences.Of particular value are Peter Meineck's notes and his translation would be particularly useful for anyone wishing to stage an production of Aristophanes Clouds that could be enjoyed by the general public.

Don't buy this version!
This is clearly an automated scan that nobody quality-checked. There are extra line breaks where there shouldn't be and there is no extra formatting to highlight when the speaker changes. Virtually unreadable.
