Wonderful!
I admit that I can't be impartial. For some reason the X Wing's design has always given my the chills. Just such a cool vehicle! That spirit is well translated into this LEGO model, which has the appropriately bulky, contoured look of the larger-scale UCS X Wings from a while back, but is mini-figure scale. Compared to the last minifig scale Xwing (OT only) this is an amazing improvement. Compared to the more recent X Wings sets from the sequel trilogy, much of the build appears to be similar; the real differences that I can spot are in the engines and wing open/close mechanism (and the overall coolness!). This model is equally swooshable and displayable, especially if you manage to craft some kind of stand for it. It's very well balanced at the middle, and therefore very easy to put on a simple stand. The minigures have a new helmet mold, breaking with the rebel pilot helmets LEGO has been putting out since the start of the LEGO Star Wars line. Those were perfect; these are nice too but I can see why some may not like them. They are quite large; seeming out of proportion even on such an out of proportion model as a minifigure. But in the source material the helmets were rather comically large on some pilots, and the difference to me is immaterial. Minifigs already have a cartoony look. The new helmets have nice printing, nice molding, and a build in molded visor. I'll be curious to see if LEGO keeps these as the standard or if they will make more changes in the future. They managed to put a molded visor on the sequel trilogy X-Wing pilot helmets, and those were equal in size to the original OT helmets. 3 points on this model that either could be better, or are just a fact of LEGO: 1.When in their closed position, the wings will all droop downward thanks to gravity. This is bound to happen - those rubber bands are only so strong. It would not be noticeable except for the fact that on the front of all 4 wings is a wedge-shaped plate; when the wings droop they will be visibly out of alignment! 2. The sides of the cockpit are covered just by very long curved slope pieces. The way these attach feels a bit tenuous, and given the way LEGO has a bit of give to it, you may be able to see through them into the cockpit. 3. Like the sequel trilogy X Wings, this model "recommends" the fat ugly spring-loaded shooters on the end of each wing. I hate these - luckily they are easy to NOT put on.

More fun than my original Kenner toy!
Yeah, I've been around long enough to have been one of those kids who eagerly awaited Christmas or birthday with the expectation of perhaps getting a new Star Wars toy after the original movie came out. The X-Wing certainly is one of the most iconic vehicles of the series and this Lego set really does it justice. The build for the front/nose section was original and fun with some interesting techniques (this is my first Lego version of this craft), while building the wings got a tad repetitive. Once complete, the whole thing is solid, satisfying, and "swooshable" - making a detailed (enough) display piece or fun toy. I especially appreciate how the R2 unit can fit facing forward (something not possible with the recent Y-Wing set), as he should. This set is a great value given the price here on Amazon. If you've been waiting to get it, I'd say now is the time! You won't be disappointed.

So much better than the 2021 version, but at what cost?
Aside from the UCS version, this is THE official version to have. The scale is great (2021 version is a little on the small side and R2 sits too high), the options to make it either Luke's or Biggs's is nice, and the wing mechanism is really well done - same as Poe's X-Wing (75273). The minifigs come with dual-molded helmets. While most didn't like these, I actually prefer them and think they turned out great. All that said, the price of this set has doubled since retirement. Poe's X-Wing was $90 and I just paid $175 for this. So, if it's for play, get the 2021 version (75301) for $40-$50 retail - it's a great value proposition. If you're a collector and want it for display, buy this 2018 model now because the price will only continue to climb.

This is a very good set!
I am 12 years old and reviewing this using my mom's account. I bought this set with my birthday money. I have several other Star Wars sets and a lot of experience with LEGO building. This is the best set I've ever gotten. I liked it, partly because of all its shooting functions, and lever for opening and closing the S-foils. I also liked the mechanism that automatically closed the S-foils if you set it down. On the helmets, the visors were attached, which is a new thing for this era of LEGO Star Wars. My only problems with it were that the astromech was prone to falling out if turned upside down, and the engines weren't the sturdiest attached. Another comment I had is that the astromech that is supposed to belong to Biggs Darklighter is actually an imperial astromech that boarded the Tantive IV in A New Hope.

Better than the 2022 version
Check out the piece count. This version is heftier and has better details. The wing folding works amazingly well and it looks great on the shelf! This is the definitive version of the X-Wing in Minifigure scale! The unique figure in the set is Luke’s best buddy Biggs Darklighter. RIP Biggs

Fun set
Fantastic, affordable and fun. This was a really fun build and spectacular value. Very durable and playable product. Pretty easy to assemble and comes with plenty of mini figures. Good details in the ship and figures.

Toys That No Child Can Afford, But They All Want
It's exactly what I expected to get from a "Lego" set, and that's great quality. Its a great representation of the X-Wing Starfighter, but again that's exactly what I was expecting. The only reason I have not given a perfect score is that these Lego sets are really pricey. I actually had to settle for this set because the "Millennium Falcon" set that I originally and still want is over $1,100.00. I used to dream as a kid about being an adult with a job, because then I would be able to get any set of Lego's my parents couldn't afford on account of having to spend money evenly and fairly amongst my 2 brothers and I. But NO the Lego sets just became astronomically more enticing and expensive to match. But no matter how amazing it is no Lego set should be so close to being a mortgage payment. I guess thats just how it is, but in my dreams im almost done building the $1,100.00+,and 7,000+ piece holy grail Milenium Falcon. LOL. TL, DR is that Lego is becoming the Apple of Toys, with expected and delivered excellence, but I have to settle for the "budget" offerings because I need food and other useless crap.
