Giani Wood Look Paint Kit for Front & Interior Doors (English Oak)

I really enjoyed this project and is a cheap way to change the look of things without the added cost. I used this for my mantle and the back of my front door. And it was plenty of material. The kit made it very simple and I was able to finish it in about 5 hours including dry times. I will add I am not the kind of person who tapes before I paint but because the mitt was thick I didn’t want to get the second coat on the wall so I didn’t tape. There were very few spots that bled and I was able to clean it off with a soap and water towel.

It was time to refresh our front door and buying new was not an option so I decided to give this kit a try. I went with English Oak and could not be happier with the final outcome. Based on reviews, I did not soak the application mit but dampened it. This worked well and allowed the stain to go on smoothly and still dry quickly. It’s truly important to finish with full-length swipes so the grain looks natural. While I have a few blemishes based on my application, I still love the final look! Make sure to tape off areas you do not want to get the stain on. The mit is a bit bulky and taping prevented me from making a mess. I used the full bottle with three coats but it covered well.

I wasn’t sure how well this would work but honestly it’s a great product, and the best part is that it looks even better in person. Feedback: After reading the reviews I didn’t follow the instructions. I painted the base primer with a paint brush in the direction the strokes would be. I let it cure overnight, then did the same thing with the stain with paint brush. I also purchased a separate wood grain roller kit so I could add additional texture, then went back and softened certain areas with a damp paper towel after about 5-7 minutes once the stain was rolled over. There are some areas I wish I had softened a little more. I need to go back and add a clear coat to protect it but hadn’t found one I liked yet. This was enough product for 1.5 doors. 5/5 Will be doing again.

This is a great product that was easy to use. I cleaned and sanded my door and followed the instructions but I did do a few modifications. There was BARELY enough base coat to cover both sides of the door so be mindful. I was surprised it covered my bright read in one coat. I let the base dry for an hour but the painters tape that came with it pealed the paint up. I put the tape on some fabric a few times to make it less sticky and that worked on the back side. I liked the mitt, but also used the brush it came with and didn’t clean the base coat out of it and used the brush with the top coat paint color and it made it a great way to spread it. Overall very happy to not be spending $400 on a new door and instead $36 on paint. I plan to add a matte top coat finish to really seal it in once cured.

This stuff is the best! Very easy to use the company has great videos that help you understand the steps. I’ve done two garage doors and now my front door. And no matter how many times I tell the neighbors no it’s just paint. They think I got a new garage door and front door. In terms of bang for your buck this is the cheapest way to totally change the appearance of your home. I cannot believe how well this stuff works. And what really sealed to deal with me when it comes to Gianni is their customer service. Their team answers the phone. They’ll walk you through any questions and they know the product very well. Also, the kit has everything you need in it. Literally everything you need. It’s very thoughtful.

I would give this product 10 stars if I could! This was certainly a "trust the process" process for me because I was so afraid of messing up a solid wood door. The previous owner of my recently purchased home at some point painted the door a coral or salmon pinkish orange color. Like this house was land mark for neighbors when giving directions because it stood out so much. "just go past the house with the pink door and turn left..." I loved everything about this house when considering the purchase except for the front door. It was important to me that the front door be aesthetically pleasing so I set out on a mission to find the best options and budget friendly ideas. And then I can across this product. I am not experienced enough in stripping paint and wasn't sure I wanted to tackle learning how to on this door for my first time. MAN!! am I glad I chose this and I will certainly be using this product on a few other pieces I plan on refinishing. The whole process was super easy and directions were easy to follow. I read a lot of reviews that said to throw the mitt away. I personally am glad that I didn't. It helped me with even application. I did however go back over it with the paint brush to even out the strokes. I am certain that the fact that this door was real wood helped tremendously with the wood grain look I was wanting. But honestly, I couldn't have asked for a better outcome on this door.

Pretty great for quick fixes, or temporary changes. Would not use on something I wanted to pass off as high end, or on nice furniture or door. We used it on an ugly door we can’t replace just yet. The results were pretty good; but the downside is it’s very difficult to apply. The mit it comes with is useless. Use the brush and a slightly damp rag. For the royal mahogany, there wasn’t enough product in the kit for both sides of the door. Only one side. Probably better products out there. Will include before/after photos.
