Tintin: Et Les Oranges Bleues

The movie was adorable, but it had no subtitles and is in its native French. However, there are enough sight gags and obvious humor to keep you interested. Captain Haddock's character was a bit more goofy than in the books, and I think they just wanted a go-to sight gag to hold the viewer. I never thought it was over-the-top, but it did get close. Of all the stabs at live-action in the Tintin universe, I like this actor as the Captain most as far as sheer appearance. Of course, Jean-Pierre Talbot is handsome and sweet as our beloved Tintin. My hands-down favorite, however, was Professor Tournesol/Calculus. He was utterly adorable and pitch-perfect. If you can find one with English dubbing or even subtitles, it's a great movie for kids and adults alike. It's far less kid-friendly in French unless they speak it, but some little ones can likely just watch the Captain be silly and be plenty entertained.

This is a rare Tintin movie made by the French in the 1960s. Thanks to the Australians, it comes with English subtitles. It is acted by real people in a real setting. A parcel with a blue orange sent to Professor Calculus sends our trio to Valencia, Spain, where they end up entangled in mass kidnappings. The story is original and does not parallel any of the Tintin books. Unfortunately, I found this movie inferior to the other human-actor Tintin movie "The Golden Fleece", which I highly recommend. Here, however, the jokes are hackneyed, and the characters' actions seemed too cartoonish and unrealistic. E.g., the Captain annoyingly couldn't run in a straight line. The Thom(p)sons only role was to act as the buffoons, and had no other part in the plot. The main line of the plot was too simple, though other parts are unnecessarily complex. Tintin simply pronounces the next course of action as if it is evident, but the logic is not so apparent. I still don't know who the bad guys are or how they intended to profit. I couldn't even figure out how many sets of bad guys there were. At one point Tintin and Haddock are running from the police as if the police are complicit. At other times the police are friends. In the end, the whole thing degenerates into a huge party of Arab-bashing. Beat, shoot, and curse as many Arabs as possible, with the Arabs of course portrayed in the ugliest terms, as was popular in the 70s most racist segments of European culture. Whereas "The Golden Fleece" is purportedly written by Herge himself, I cannot see any of Herge's fingerprints on this. This movie is so unlike the mature Tintin of Tibet and the Castafiore Emerald written around the same time. I would say this movie is of interest only to collectors.

Its a great french and funny movie for tintin fans but it says that the language is in english but it is only in french with no subtitles.... so that was very disapointing for me...

This movie looks really good, based on the reviews. Unfortunately, it does not work on U.S. dvd players.

This film is not better than the previous one, "Mystere de la Toison D'Or", but it is entertaining. Again, it has no English dubbing nor subtitles. All in French, mon ami!

Unlike the version available from Australia,(Region 4) this version does not have English sub-titles.This fact was only discovered after opening the DVD and playing for a few minutes.It could have stated clearly that there were no sub-titles available on this Region 1 version of the film.Thus my grandchildren have a DVD which is altogether meaningless to them. Money wasted because the online description was not detailed sufficiently.

In 1961, there was a successful, entertaining live action film based on the Adventures of Tintin (though not based on any particular book) named Tintin and the Golden Fleece, filmed in Greece and Turkey, with Jean Pierre Talbot playing the young reporter. A second film came out in 1964. Talbot is again Tintin while there is a new actor playing Haddock, the always gesticulating Jean Bouise.The plot has Professor Zalamea, a Spanish scientist, sending Calculus (Felix Fernandez) a blue orange, a part of a research program into food that will be a key to ending world hunger. When the orange is stolen in Moulinsart, Calculus decides to go to meet the scientist, but soon after arriving he is kidnapped, so Tintin and Haddock are onto his rescue.This second film is far less successful than the first one. The locations (in Southern Spain) are not as attractive as those of the first film, the plot is more silly than interesting, the direction less inspired. Even Tintin fans might be hard pressed to like this a lot. Rene Goscinny (of Asterix fame) was one of the writers. Herge is uncredited though he probably had some creative input.

It is so disappointing that there is so much Tintin stuff out there for which Herge Foundation won't allow into the USA, and when region-1 stuff is available, they won't sub-title. Don't buy this. Go buy a region-5/region-free DVD player and buy the videos from the UK. Guess what? ENGLISH!Were this available in North America in English - it would have been rated with 4-stars. Blue Oranges and Golden Fleece are wonderful books and movies. Too bad one cannot enjoy them unless you speak French.I guess Quebec and St.Perre et Miquelon should be in their own little Franco-phile world. Last time I checked, Region-1 covered all of Canada, the US and the Caribbean. Gee, I guess no one speaks any English in those countries.

C'est o.k. mais définitivement pas aussi bon que "Le mystère de la Toison d'Or"-(1961) Je préfère le capitaine Haddock dans le premier film aussi, mais ce film est quand-même bon pour les collectionneurs et amateurs des aventures de Tintin.

Not a patch on Tintin and the Golden Fleece. Virtual absence of plot leads to series of almost slapstick sequences. Apart from Tintin the rest of the cast are played for laughs. Sadly, as a result you quickly lose interest.
