I’ve been very impressed with this backup camera system overall. The installation was straightforward, and the wireless setup made it much easier than running cables through my vehicle. I did some research and Auto-Vox backup cameras came out on top. The camera was well packaged and every bit as easy to install and get working as described. I wasn't sure if I wanted the 5" camera or the 7" camera and decided the 7" camera was worth the extra cost, which wasn't much. It has the capability to record video which is a plus and lets it also function as a rear dashcam in the 'always on' mode. The picture on the camera is crisp and clear and the color is rich, and the picture is easy to use when backing up. It also has an excellent night-vision picture. I also really like the fact that it is wireless and solar powered. That saved me from a great deal of trouble wiring it up. I know from what my mechanic told me that wiring something in the back of my car, like the collision detection feature of my rear dash cam, would be very labor intensive because of having to completely remove the rear light assembly and work around a lot of obstructions to get something wired up correctly. Being solar powered saved me from all that trouble and time and in only about 5-6 minutes I had the camera and monitor set up and it was working. I've had it about a week so far and have had no trouble with the camera or the monitor. I did an initial charging of the battery and the sun charges the camera battery just like it should so I don't have to worry about battery power for the camera. It connects with the monitor with no trouble at all and there have never been any glitches the monitor picture. There are a lot of other choices in backup cameras but Auto-Vox is one of the best if not the best. I am completely satisfied with my purchase and I highly recommend backup cameras from Auto-Vox. Also, I had a question about something and a customer service rep, Gigi, was extremely helpful. Auto-Vox has great customer service and obviously cares about its customers. Thank you, Auto-Vox!

I purchased this camera because my factory installed camera quit working and I like this much better. The installation was a snap, even for an arthritic, elderly woman. I installed it on the bottom of the plate since the top blocked part of the plate, and the bottom view was preferred. The monitor screen (7'2) is very clear, provides the necessary lines for parking and gives a wide angle view. I wish there were a way to keep the monitor active longer, but it is easy to reactivate it if needed. It has been very overcast here and after 6 weeks, it showed the charge was down just a bar. I recharged it anyway to make sure that was working it was charged completely when I checked it just an hour later. Since I have one of those cars where the hood "vanishes" from the driver's seat, I wish I had ordered the dual cameras. I have ordered a second camera to put in the front so I can see how close I am. I had a little trouble finding it on Amazon, but I contacted the seller and after some confusion, they are sending it to me. I can hardly wait to receive it. I understand the dual system comes pre-paired, but this will not. Fingers crossed that it comes quickly and pairs as easily as it installs. Fingers crossed. UPDATE: New camera arrived and installed in a flash. WORTH NOTING: The new camera was set as a rear view and I needed it switched for the front view. I had a little trouble doing that because the instructions are not very detailed. But the support at the vendor was very helpful and I was eventually able to switch it so it works correctly. Also, if you have questions on a purchase or need support, be patient with the human support which is most likely not in your time zone. Email is the best communication, but every response is next day if you are US based. My original frustration was due to confusion with the CHAT AI - once I communicated directly to the seller, things went well and promises were honored. I also learned that the monitor can be set to stay on whenever the monitor is plugged in. It does drain the battery on the camera faster, but you can set it to record continually while the monitor is on. After the change, my cameras held a charge with continuous recording for several weeks. And it charges again very quickly. I highly recommend this product and this company.

Easy to install, good pictures, manual could be better. Some of the Amazon info is outdated. There is no memory chip included and the manual never shows how to install or use it. Time choices for camera on also outdated. Trying to use chat session with AutoVox also never works very well. Product works pretty good otherwise.

Well, we've tried several variations of after-market back-up cameras, and then we came across this one - the AUTO-VOX 7.2" DVR Portable Solar Wireless Back-up HD camera. We have a 2007 Honda CRV and a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. This solar powered wireless backup camera is a cinch to connect, with no assembly/connection issues at all. The HD screen is superbly sharp and bright. But there is one issue that has me very disappointed, and that is this device freezes up often, especially if you're backing up or moving forward quickly. Sometimes it also jitters. If I back up too quickly (which is not quick), the screen will freeze. I have my settings set to have the monitor stay on for 4 minutes. After backing up, if I'm driving forward (which is a faster speed), the camera freezes completely. However, when I come to a stop or slow down to a crawl, the freezing stops. Now I realize that this freezing is the result of a wireless transmission issue, but really, what good is this back-up camera device if the connection functionality is not consistent at all. I love the fact that it's wireless - definitely beats having to screw into your car and run wires to lights, etc. However, what good is it all, if the unit freezes up more often than not? POSITIVES: 1. Looks great and connects quickly and easily. 2. Screen is 1080P - very sharp, bright, and true colors. NEGATIVES (At least with my unit): 1. Quite prolific freezing scenarios. Backing up or moving forward more quickly, results in the unit freezing and won't unlock until you slow down to a crawl or stop. 2. The cable to connect the screen to a 12V plug (or cigarette lighter) is entirely too long in my opinion. I know they were trying to make sure you had enough cable, but what they give you is entirely too much and even trying to wrap it around a bunch of different things, isn't enough. 3. Died after a week or so of use. My wife came in and said that nothing worked anymore - bummer, so it's going back. So yes, we love the way everything looks and the ease of hookup - but it's connectivity is what drags this device down, and then to have it completely fail after a week, is why I gave it 1 star. In our book, it's not worth the $150+ they are charging for this device.

You will have to be creative with your mounting. The camera is designed to mount either With top screws of the license plate or bottom screws of the license plate. If you use the top screws , you will block the light for your license plate. If you use the bottom screws , you may block the stickers for your registration. The mount for the front screen is not versatile. I had to buy a mount for a cell phone. And third lens on the camera is fisheye Like usual , but is maybe a little too fish eyed. The wireless connection is easy and automatic.The software is easy to navigate. The pictures are clear.

I've had this backup camera for a little over a year now and it has worked flawlessly. The image is crystal clear in both day and night settings and the battery stays fully charged due to its solar capabilities. I use this on my large 4 door truck and it was great not having to run a long dedicated wire from the rear of the rear of the truck up to the cab. Great product!!

The Auto Vox Solar Back Up camera is the second I have owned. This one also can be easily installed and doesn’t require any permanent wiring. I simply attached the camera with solar battery recharging unit to my license plate and plugged the monitor into the lighter plug in. Like my first one the image is sharp and reliable. I like that the newer model has a switch on the plug in to turn the camera on if I want to do it manually. Overall the battery life is good. In the winter months I have to self charge it on occasion due to lack of natural sunlight. In the summer it is no problem. I have found the manual helpful and I keep it in my glove compartment for easy access. It is an essential product for those of us with older vehicles without build in units. I have a blind spot backing out of my driveway and this really helps. Overall I think my Auto Vox solar back up camera was a good purchase and I would recommend it.

I’m really happy with the AUTO‑VOX 7.2" Solar Wireless Reversing Camera with DVR Loop Recording. It was extremely easy to install — the sticky number‑plate mount meant no screws, no drilling, no hassle, which I loved. The camera connected quickly, and the 1080P picture quality is clear and reliable, making reversing and parking much easier. The only downside is that the mount covers a small part of the registration plate. I’m not thrilled about that and I’m hoping it doesn’t cause any issues or fines. Something to be aware of. Aside from that, the camera works brilliantly. The solar charging is convenient, the screen is a good size, and the whole setup feels solid and well‑designed. Overall, a great product — just wish the plate coverage was slightly better thought out.

What a great system. Installing it only takes a few minutes. I could slide the camera behind the license plate, which took a minute. The monitor can be stuck on the dashboard and can also be removed, but I attached it to the window with a suction cup. I tested the range, and it is definitely 100 meters. The image quality is very good. The operation of the monitor is intuitive. When you are reversing or overtaking, you just press the button on the connector, and the camera turns on. The camera can also stay on continuously, but then it needs to be charged every 12 hours.
