SOLID CHOICE
I feel like Batman when I use this beast of a bag. While it only has one compartment inside the bag, its great for anyone who wants to modify what they use it for on a day to day basis. It fit perfectly under the chair on the plane, and held up will in some light rain. Will be traveling with this bag for years to come. I'd suggest getting a "Grid-it" board from amazon as well. Its great alternative to the bag being an open shell of space. The water bottle holding side pocket is awesome too! Not too tight that you have to jam your finger in to remove your flask or wahtever you put in there.

Expensive, but delightful!
My review is for the Pelican Travel Backpack, Black, 18 LiterPelican makes bags....BEAUTIFUL bags! This is not my first Pelican bag, nor will it be my last. They are definitely gender-neutral, but even as a woman, I prefer the sleek look of this in solid black. It's great for work and for work travel...and even will come with me on my next international trip. The zippers work well and the zipper pulls don't make a ton of noise with movement (unlike my prior bag from a very famous and high end bag/luggage maker).I do wish the inside was a bit darker, just to hide stains that are sure to come with prolonged use.The straps inside I don't use but I can see the appeal/need for them, depending on your travel purchase. For me, I find some things (like folders) can get snagged/stuck on them, thus I wish they were detachable.Great bag, honestly, but the price is just too high for most consumers.Bottom line: I would possibly purchase again, if on sale.

Perfect
Good quality. Perfect for all my needs for K9 detection supplies. Well made. Zippers are very well secured. No complaints so far. Follow up review if issues occur.

Not what you would expect
I have never paid so much for a high quality named product (Pelican) and been so disappointed. It’s nothing but a shell. No interior pockets or even a petition. It’s thin and very low quality for a high price. Nothing about the small bag is what you would expect from a carry on size.Don’t waste your money!

Super sturdy, roomy, a bit hard to open the zippers though
Pelican always delivers. For me the 18 liter version is the right size for flying (25 is too bulky). The build quality is solid (which the brand is renowned for). I love that they coupled fleece liners with super hard shell which is perfect for delicate electronic devices (I have a gimbal, drone and dslr. None of them is crazy expensive but I'm tired of having a case for each of them). Pelican gave me a solution I've been asking for for years as photographer/videographer enthusiast who travels a lot. It's quite roomy for a 18 liter and also well sectioned so you don't have to dig in there to look for what you need. I love the straps inside I got some straps purchased for another luggage and reused them in these, I also use a cocoon organizer as a separator and storage smaller items.Personally I don't like the zipper. The zippers are ones of higher quality, ironically one of the best I've ever seen in a travel backpack complemted with the straps on both sides they function as some kind of anti-theft mechanism but at the same time hinder you access to what is inside especially when an photographer want to quick-draw his camera for an unexpceted shot.Other that that good problem, I'll say this is one of the best travel backpack I owned. From airport to hinking to city scape, I can't think of a scenario when you can't take this with you. And I love the velco patch, too. It adds a touch of personality to this whole rugged Pelican's owner stereotype. How can I not recommend this very functional jack-of-all-trade for a travel backpack.

A Mediocre Attempt To Enter The Backpack Market By Pelican
I had somewhat high hopes for Pelican's entry into the travel segment but as far as backpacks go this particular model is pretty disappointing. The quality of materials used are above average but outside of that , everything else falls short. The zipper openings for all two main compartments are water proof but are painfully hard to open and close. The stiffness is so much so that one handed opening is impossible. It would probably have helped to have larger zippers and zipper pulls but as is, the actual zippers are way too small.Organization is pretty much non existent unless you buy a bunch of other Pelican products that are compatible with this bag. There are basically two main compartments and nothing else. The first and main one is hard shelled, which, is nice but it is completely bare outside of a small zippered inner stash pocket that you can use for keys, airpods, anything small. It's located on the underside of the lid. It's basically a cavernous compartment. The inner lining is velcro and has a bunch of tie points for extra Pelican accessories or for anything that can attach by way of velcro. The second compartment is the laptop area and only has one zipper vs. two that you have on the other main compartment. The inside has a few small pockets but none that are zippered. these pockets are good for storing pens or any other flat to semi flat objects. Your laptop goes straight in. The side opposite to that of the pockets is also lined with Velcro. I initially thought it was going to be some soft fleece like material but it wasn't. I don't know why you would want to use velcro. The opening is small and the capacity is just way too thin to fit anything other than your laptop or a tablet. Anything you stick into the pockets are going to rub up against your laptop and take up real estate in an already super small compartment. There are two elastic water bottle pockets on either sad of the bag but they are pretty damn rigid. You can fit smaller bottles into them but anything larger will be a super tight fit.The straps are very nicely padded and I found that to be the best part of the bag. They are comfortable and adjustable and the sternum strap is situated in the right spot. There is also a nicely padded grab handle on the top of the bag.The back panel is rigid with some nicely placed air channels to prevent sweat.Lastly, there are plenty of latch points on both the straps and around the bag. In particular, on the front side of the bag they have their strap system that, again, is compatible with Pelican accessories. The bag itself isn't a total dud but it's far from being a true all purpose bag as it has almost zero organization (requires accessories at additional cost for more organization) and the laptop compartment leaves a lot to be desired. The main compartment is large and protected due to the hard shell but I don't know that it's really the audience they are trying to target. And the zippers being super hard to open and close don't exactly add to the appeal despite being waterproof. On top of all that, the price for a 18L bag is $199......atrocious for what you get!Gotta give this one a thumbs down, especially if you plan on using it as an every day carry.
