Easy to use and long-lasting, Ideal for clean, professional engraving
I run a laser engraving and cutting business and have used this spray on both metal and plastic with excellent results. It’s very easy to apply — just make sure to use it outside or in a well-ventilated area, as the fumes are strong. One thing to note is that while it's called a “black” laser marking spray, it actually sprays out with a yellow tint. That said, the final engraved marks come out black, crisp, and clean, exactly as expected. It doesn’t degrade the quality of the materials I’m engraving on, and it’s been surprisingly long-lasting — I’ve been using the same can for a couple of months across multiple projects, and there’s still plenty left. Definitely worth the investment for anyone doing precision laser work.

High quality but more expensive
5 stars for quality, ease of use5 stars for coverage4 stars for cost effectivenessCan is smaller than other brands for the same price, but I figured I’d give it a shot since it’s the xtool brand. Worked well enough, but the Cermark brand is just fine in a bigger can for less money. Might not cover as well as xtool brand and require a couple more passes. Xtool brand did a great job to cover effectively

High contrast marks, works great on metal
I run a laser engraving operation and have tried a few different marking sprays over the years. This xTool spray gives a noticeably high contrast black mark on metals and glass. Application is easy, just spray a light coat, let it dry, engrave, then wipe clean. Works well on stainless steel and aluminum. One can goes a long way if you apply thin coats. The only thing to watch is that it can smell pretty strong so make sure you have ventilation. Results are crisp and the marks are durable after wiping. Much better contrast than some cheaper alternatives I have tried.

Pricey, but seems like good stuff.
Pricey, but works well. Glad we don't need it often. Try a few of them to see what works best.

DO NOT BUY!
Don't bother with this garbage. I was hoping it would make my CO2 laser engravings darker like usual marking sprays on wood, but it didn't. It just left a chalky light green residue that did not darken the letters at all. Plus, the instructions say to remove it with water, but it still leaves the chalky residue inside of the engraving. DO NOT BUY!!!Not sure if it works better on metal than wood though. I just know 100% that if you want a darker engraving on wood, look elsewhere (like using the Borax method).Edit: Customer service contacted me and sent me a new bottle. I was hopeful! Maybe I was wrong with my first review. I followed the instructions exactly. 1. Marked the wood. 2. Let it dry for 30 min. 3. Engraved with different power levels and speed. 4. Wiped off with water and a cloth. Ultimately IT WAS A MESS!! See photo. DO NOT BUY IT!! Especially if you expect to engrave on WOOD with this.Edit: Turns out, just don't buy if you expect to darken wood. This is for metal, ceramics, etc. not wood!
