Superbly energetic. Excellent writing.
Liked the character views in the book. Could dive deeper into each character but enjoyed the pace in the book & series.

Amazing series!!
I gotta say, I was at the edge of my seat right up to the end!! I kept thinking how much there was left to do before the store could truly wrap up one way or the other. Amazing!! Totally worth reading the whole series, to see how everything happens. Every book is good in it's own way, but together they make an amazing series!! I would recommend it to anyone, especially anybody who enjoys reading war stories. There is alot going on all the time, and the books jump around alot (probably the only thing about the series that I dont normally like, though it worked in this case).. There is alot of story going on, but there are many scenes that are battle scenes... If you have something to do, I suggest not starting a battle scene until you have time to finish it.

Great story!
Thoroughly enjoyed this series! The plot, the characters, the many different villains, the magic and explanation of the magic system were awesome. The one thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars in the repetitiveness. You can probably cut down the books in half if you took out all the times it said:"Alexander stepped into his circle and slipped into the firmament""They had a simple fare, but it was plentiful""Jataan fell in line a step behind and to his left"

Average guy review, not a pro
I do love a good story, and this was a good story all things considered. O to the dislike part however. I must say it was dragging on and on and on in some parts, i hate skipping over stuff because im always afraid i will miss something important but i did here. I dont need a description over each leaf, twig, wall, building etc. It isnt always important to know everything. Sure, some descriptive wording is great, but this seemed to go overboard. Next, seems as if the bad guy Phane wasnt given much book time, it is always just assumed he was so powerful and yes, when they did bring him up, he did some powerful juju but he was mostly kept out of the book reporting part, always telling on the good guys and even a bit more on the other bad guys more than Phane. Never explained why Phane was so childlike but with a bad attitude. seems a contridiction. Next, the bad guy the necromancer, cant remember name atm, but he was getting killed off several times, never really knew if he was the real one or not, was very scattered in the telling and it didnt really portray well in the story. I kept thinking he got killed, and the good guys seemed to think so or they didnt, i was like, well did they or not, was it really him or not, and the good guys didnt act accordingly to that either. Was disappointed in the final battle. It didnt explode, just sorta popped a little. Next, i got tired of every fight scene after a while, same stuff, different day type of thing, good guys go in, fight, they get injured, jump into a den, get healed, attack again, get wounded again, jump into the den, get healed etc. Lastly, i kept thinking Alexander had some great spell, or plan that nobody even thought on, or that he would use the black melting liquid stuff to destroy the gate and it seemed to tell in the story that this might be the case but it was lackluster and lot of hype for a no show. Dont get me wrong, i think the storyline was great. Solid characters, interesting world and a good story. As much as i would like to say its as good as Terry Goodkind, it really isnt. The Story is similar and in that respect it was good, but the telling of it, some areas not enough information, in some too much. I did like it though, enough to start on the next series of books.

Awesome
I read all 7 of the sovereign of the seven isles. I enjoyed all 7. You get to love and hate the different characters. You get to know the different forms of security. The books keep you engaged.

Wonderfully enjoyable!
I read the reviews here, and was a bit hesitant due to one particularly scathing review about the quality of the writing, And I can't now, for the life of me imagine what that reivewer was looking for in such a series. The writing was more than fine. All I can say to that lady is, if you want Tolstoy, go read Tolstoy--but I don't need deep political meaning and philosophy when I want to take a romp away from this dismally sad country. The plot was great, and I particularly liked the amazing number of artifacts and magical inventions popping up here and there. They didn't feel "conveniently" designed either where with some authors a problem arrives and suddenly a new magical trick is provided to get the protagonist out of impossible binds. It was well thought out, very creative with few forays into the void just to add pages. The fighting and battles were a bit too detailed and I tended to skip over that to the resolution. Another thing I liked was the satisfying number of triumphs to counter-balance the dismal outlook with almost impossible odds against them. I hate reading series where everything continually goes from bad to worse and it just gets so heavy and depressing you feel like skipping ahead to SOMETHING good, just so you don't go to bed depressed! This isn't quite up there with Robin Hobbs to me, but not far behind in my book.

Overall great series
I really enjoyed this series; it was the 1st real page turner I have read in a few years and fun to read. Overall highly recommended.SPOILER ALERTThere were some unfinished storylines that left me wondering at the end but that's just a minor irritation in what has been an enjoyable journey:- did Kelvin become an arch mage?- was lucky able to create wizards dust?- what happened to sammael? It never found Alexander?- what happened to the Acuna? & Grant? Did they end up ruling andalia again?- if I were Alexander I would have dragged Phane's body into my Wizards Den & thrown it over the balcony to ensure there was no chance of him rising again- the Reishi protectorate were strangely absent. Surely such an elite organisation could have been more useful against the enemies of the light- what was the reaction of the other sovereigns toAlexander's victory especially Malachi?- I thought some more bad ass companions (battle wizards or elite assassins) could have aƧcompanied Alex's core team- could Kelvin have repaired Mage Cedric's staff & could it have been a factor in Alex's victory?- how come Rake used the staff without being a wizard?- could Benesh Reishi's books have helped Alex more in being an adept!- could Siduri have taught him some bad ass adept skills before tackling the shades?- didn't Cedric leave some more instructions/magic books in the 3rd & final blood vault?- I would have loved to have found out what kind of books were available in the Reishi sovereigns library & whether Kelvin, Magda et al made more use of them- could the linkershim have unmade Phane's tower in karth?- could Alex have made more use of Jack's cloak to sneak past his enemies?Anyway great job David, I loved the series. Thank you so much for the pleasure I derived from reading it

A great read to finish the series
The last 6 books have built the story carefully showing both the successes and failures of Alexander and his friends. This last book works towards the end, again with highs and lows you'd expect. It's safe to say the final few chapters do not disappoint. I for one have enjoyed reading this series and would recommend it to others, as the story is strong and characters are well written.

Fab, Fab, Fab! Loved it from book 1 & gutted it's now finished!
I thought this would be mostly a medieval knights battling against one another type series. I'm so happy that I was wrong! Yes, there were kingdoms & armies etc but this was a small part of the whole story. I won't give anything away but it was a perfect mix of battles, magic, adventure, relationships etc. Wish I could brainwash myself to read it anew!
