Great book to teach our kids that winning is not everything
I Need To Win is a book guided to help kids understand that winning is not always the key factor when playing games or sports. Learning to have fun and gaining new skills is what is more important. The social interaction piece and making new friends is vital to all of our children and this book teaches that. It is true that losing is discouraging, but it is a factor in all areas of life. Everybody wants to excel or win, but learning that it's okay not to is an important concept for our children to understand so that they do not internalize the negativity behind losing at something. I love how this book is also in a workbook format so that we can not only sit down with our kids and read it, but we can also interact with it and discuss certain aspects that may have already come up in their lives. It is an imperative concept for all of our kids to understand. As a mother of a special-needs child, it is that much more important and having the interactive piece is that more helpful for her to understand.Winning is not everything. Having fun and making new friends outweighs any win!

Not a good book, don't waste your money.
This book had "activities" for kids. The activities were not helpful and either too easy and not directly related to sportsmanship.

As a father of 3 boys with varying interests in sports and activities, I found this book to be extremely helpful in identifying what it means to be a good sport. Sometimes I struggle explaining to the kids why a particular act is not good sportsmanship and I just end up saying, "because it isn't!" This book outlines the "rules" of being a good sport and why they are important. The book also provides strategies for kids that challenge the rules - for example, "if you think cheating happened...calmly ask to go over the rules". I feel that this book is must read for any kids entering the playground or participating in organized sports.

Talks to kids, not down to them
This book addresses the topic of being a good sport in a language kids relate to without feeling like they are being talked down to. I've found it breaks the concepts of competitiveness, winning, losing, and playing fairly into easy to discuss topics. Children are left with concrete ideas and examples of how their behavior can impact sports and games. The book offers clear suggestions for how to deal with not only sport competitiveness, but it touches on social and academic competitiveness as well.

Great collaborative guide for both parents and kids to use
Great collaborative guide for both parents and kids to use. The exercises in the book allow kids to think about sportsmanship without being in the heat of the moment. What I like the most is that there it walks kids through real-life situations on the playground or on the ball field and provides them with specific actions they can take or words they can use to become better sports and have more fun. Great resource.

What a wonderful addition to the already great books out by these authors. Having two teenage boys on the spectrum and a desire to have us all enjoy playing together, this was a much needed resource in our home. Both my boys (and myself) our highly competitive. They find it very stressful and anxiety provoking to participate in activities. This book offers great questions and tips to help your kids to understand how to be a good sportsman. I would highly recommend it.

This book is filled with tips and strategies to help our kids learn how to have fun and play games/sports while having good sportsmanship and deal with any frustrations that might arise. The pages are filled with kid-friendly language, great illustrations, and a place to write down ideas. I highly recommend this book.

I loved all of the tips to help kids have good sportsmanship. The tips were easy to understand especially after reading all of the examples for each tip. I also liked that there were parts of the book where kids were asked to either fill in other ideas or they were asked to apply what they learned to a given situation.
