Works great.
I am 38 and have developped osteoarthritis in my right hand that is so bad I can barely type or use a mouse some days. I've tried ice baths, and icepacks, and both did a good job getting the cold where I needed it, but balancing a bowl of water on my chair for 20 mins, and finding an ice pack that could cover all of the areas I needed it to was difficult.I bought this and I can say it works exactly as I needed it to! It DOES get cold enough but to target my index finger joint and some others, I have to make a fist around the gel because my hands are so small and it's perfect! It stays cold the entire time. And it's easy to take care of and comfortable to wear. The strap keeps it in place, unlike an ice pack or frozen veggies that constantly move.Very happy with the product.

Really Cold!
Bought this for my wife following replacement of the joint where her right thumb meets the wrist. Unlike ice bags that don't conform well to the hands shape, this gel mitt gets the job done. It's very cold and may be uncomfortable for some users, so adjust time in the freezer as needed. Recommended to me by the physical therapy center she attended.

cold but not icy
Considering how incredibly heavy these mitts are, I expected to feel as if I were icing my hands, but the gel only got cold--not icy cold. (And other ice packs are in my freezer, and they are much colder.) The design is great if you really want to ice down all your fingers, thumb, and everything else at the same time, but it just was not icy. It would also be better with a velcro closure because if you slide one hand into a mitt, then it's extremely difficult to slide your other hand into a second mitt. (If somebody else is there when you're using it, that would help a lot!) I really struggled to get both of them on at the same time because once one of your hands is in the mitt, you can scarcely do anything with that hand at all. It's great to have something that fits over the whole hand securely, but for the high price, and considering how amazingly heavy they are, I can't believe they don't get colder.(I have not tried them for heat therapy.)

great for burning pain from erythromalgia
I have erythromalgia and i have burning pain that is so severe that I can't hold my husbands hand because his heat literally burns my hands. When I got hurt and developed this condition, he had to hold ice packs just to hold my hand for a minute, then his Hand would get hot again and he would hold it again etc. When I found this mitt, it changed things for the better! His hand is now more " normal" feeling and not so hot so i can hold it, and I use it too to make my hand cool off too. Now we can hold hands longer than a min at a time. Its usually five to ten mins at a time now before he has to put it on again. I am glad we found this product. It stays cool for about twenty mins and is a quality product.

Prevent neuropathy in chemotherapy
We purchased a pair of these gloves to be used during my mom's chemotherapy sessions for when she was receiving Taxol and Taxotere. The goal of keeping her hands (and feet) cold was to prevent neuropathy (tingling and numbness in fingers). They were successful in keeping her hands cold enough to prevent most signs of neuropathy--she did have some minor pain in one of her fingers, but it was not a permanent effect. These stay pliable even when frozen, and are sufficiently cold for about 30-40 minutes when in use. They come with a removable inner liner that can be cleaned in between uses. For our uses, we placed them in the freezer the night before her chemo session, along with several freezer packs to transport them. Right before leaving for chemo, we put them in a cooler surrounded by the freezer packs. We put the liner on her hand, then slipped the mitten over top.Unfortunately, her chemo sessions were an hour long, and to prevent neuropathy we were told to keep her hands cold for 10-15 minutes before and after receiving the drug. The cost of the gloves is quite expensive, so we did not feel we could buy the two sets we would have needed to last the entire treatment. To remedy this, we had her lay her mittened-hand on a freezer pack 15 minutes into treatment. 30 minutes into treatment, we placed another freezer pack on top, creating a sort of freezer pack-mitten sandwich. Sandwiching the mitten in the freezer packs kept the gloves cold enough to last her the entire treatment session, plus bumper time before and after receiving the drugs. Putting the freezer packs on too soon, though, caused her a lot of pain, so we had to wait until the mittens had warmed up just slightly before re-freezing them with the ice packs.Though expensive, these mittens do keep hands completely cold for 30-40 minutes. I only wish they were more cost-effective for continuous use or lasted longer.

We are very happy we made this purchase
They work well for my wife going through chemo. I got an extra pair, so that once one pair coolness wears off, the nurses help to put on the second pair on my wife during her chemo session. The nurses have commended me and my wife for taking this practical step. These gloves with the freezing component applied to me wife hands significantly helps to reduce the risk of her having long lasting neuropathy. We are very happy we made this purchase. I highly recommend it.

Minimal cooling. Very disappointing. An ice pack and a standard mitten would work much better.
These mitts offer minimal cooling power. Very disappointing.I purchased them for use after heavy bag workouts. They provide an insipid amount of cooling - more like mildly cool than actual icing. Even without the liner my hands felt barely cooler than room temp AND even that disappointing level of cooling quickly dissipated.I was able to salvage the purchase by placing an additional, standard, ice pack in the glove. Then again I could have done that with any standard mitten or even kitchen gloves.
