Intermodal railroading
Hi!This book was really interesting reading if you are interested in how intermodal railroading has been developing in the states and threw out the world. And how it has been progressing through the decades to become of what it is today in modern railroad industry. This writer Brian Salomon has done this book very well. This book is also very well written I must say. I couldn't find one single misspellings in it. The book shows in a very thorough way how it all started in the early 50: s with piggy back trailers and how slow the railroad industry was to see the potential of what it is today. The book also describes how much struggle the railroad companies had with all the bureaucrat icy of where to run the routes and so on. This is something that we not are aware of at all today. The book also explains very well how the cars and equipment for this kind of hauling have been developed through the decades to what it is today, this with lots of good illustrative pictures and with just as good comments to these pictures. It also explains very well why this kind of hauling has been the big industry as it has become of today, in our modern railroad industry, not only in the states, but also all over the world. The only thing that I am really missing in this book too, is a summary chapter where you can see all these different variants of cars are put up in some kind of diagram or table. This, so it will be more easy to see the small changes of development as the evolution has been going forward of this kind of equipment. But if I summary this book overall I can really recommend it for those who want to get some really thorough information of how intermodal railroad industry has been develop through the decades to get there of what it is today. It is very "nutritious" of information. It also brings up how this kind of haulage will continue to grow into enormous volumes compared with the already big volumes the industry have today.I was very pleased with this book I must say, so I can really recommend this one too.Yours sincerely Mark from Sweden.

Good Product for the Price
The book arrived with a tear in the top cover but that was easily repaired with tape. The hard cover and rest of the book were in great shape. The information is older but full of great history on Intermodal transportation. It was a great buy.

Great Pictoral Overview
Purchased it for one of my Masters Degree classes and was not let down. The book is written in an easy to understand manner and all the photos-many in color-assist in the understanding of the material. As I said in my title, this book a great overview and even though it is a quite large book (in the coffee table book style) the photos take up a lot of the space. If you want to get more in the weeds, also look in to "Piggyback and Containers" by David DeBoer or "Intermodal Transportation-The Whole Story" by David McKenzie, et al.

Review of Intermodal Railroading
I am an O-Scale model railroader and was quite excited that this book on the subject of Intermodal Railroading was coming out! I just received it today and was not disappointed!Let me tell you it is an excellent resource with loads of photos and historical information with some never been published before. The ideas generated from this book would keep any model railroader whose interests on this subject intrigued for a long time! This book would be an excellent companion to Jeff Wilson's book "Modeling Intermodal Railroads" published by Kalambach Books. Good job by Brian Solomon.

It might be useful to develop a European/UK equivalent as things are different ...
A very comprehensive and detailed book on a complex and still evolving technology set. It might be useful to develop a European/UK equivalent as things are different in many ways in Europe in terms of railway and inter-modal context. The book might usefully have added in some Canadian and Mexican material to round off the North American review.
