Bag is made of a canvas material so if rain is light it would be ok but this bag doesn't have a rain cover. You could use a small plastic garbage bag placed inside that camera bag in case of heavy precipitation. Always good to have on a photo trip.

Q: Will a canon 70d with a tamron 70-250 fit sideways in this bag? the f-2 looks too huge.

I am not familiar with Canon or Tamron. I fit a Nikon D-100 with a Nikon 24-140 zoom in it fairly easily and still have room for the 4 section divider. The 24-100 is not long but is very fat and the D-100, as an older body, is pretty large. I looked up you camera and it looks a bit smaller than mine. I could not find your lens but the 70-300 looks long. I'm not sure what you mean by sideways. If all you want to carry in the main compartment is your camera/lens I don't think you will have a problem and maybe even still have room for the divider. They sell an accessory 2 pouch divider also. I use this bag almost every day and only resort to a larger bag when I carry 2 bodies. I hope this helps.
