Nothing, absolutely nothing grows.
Absolutely a scam. I’ve had better luck on white label uncle Ben’s from grocers. At no point should anyone buy these for mycology. cordyceps, oysters, and reishi did not propagate…. They won’t even grow bacteria…. Been over 40 days watching to see if any of those three liquid cultures would start to grow….. nothing. Tossing this one up to citizen science. Don’t do it LOL

Great product
Heard about this from a friend and wanted to try. Arrived very fast. Looks like it was made very well. Sturdy plastic just like the Uncle Ben ones, except this one is all see through which is why I bought it. Would be good to check on mycelium growing. Rice: looks well hydrated, but excess water!! Great! I know Uncle Ben’s had some formula change where there’s too much water lately. Been exclusively using Uncle Ben’s Tek following 90sec mycology tutorials with success. Crossing fingers that this one is even better.

easier than making your own, but more expensive and lower odds of success
Experienced mycologist here. these are convenient, but the contamination rate is higher than it should be (2 or 3 out of 10). So, easier than making your own, but more expensive and lower odds of success

Colonized fast, no contams
These bags made growing mushrooms way easier than other spawn bags. Once I inoculated the bag, the mycelium took off fast. One thing that’s important though, don’t forget gas exchange for mycelium to grow. I just added a second hole at the top and covered it with micropore tape.

4/6 survivors to colonize
The photo is 20 days after inoculation. If you’re buying theses odds are you’re coming from the uncle Ben’s , While they offer an upgrade to the broke boys tech with the higher weight and visibility They are at a significantly higher price point, Other competitors in the twenty to thirty dollar range and 3-5lbs all have healing injection ports and breathing vents. -1 star The fact you have to install them in these makes it easier to contaminate them before they are ready to mix. As was the case for two of my six that developed mold shortly around colonization. Likely there might be more contamination before harvest unfortunately -1 star speed of colonization, utilizing the same strain on 3 different manufacturers of grain spawn, these were the slowest to develop, wich is ironic considering their smaller bag size. You’d think they’d spread faster than 4lb bags. Moisture seems about appropriate as long as you put the breathing holes for the spawn. The bags are nice and thick like the kind UB comes in not some cheap ziplock. Overall I wish these came with the breathing and injection ports so I likely won’t buy again. if you’re someone who’s cool with installing those and paying the $5-10 on top to get those materials and is looking to run several strains in smaller batches at the same time this might make a lot more sense than buying larger weight grain bags

Very low success rate!!!!
I’ve bought these on 2 different occasions. I used liquid culture on my first box of 6 bags. Not a single one colonized ZERO. On my second box I got 3 out of the 6 bags to colonize using live cultures, of those 3 with live agar cultures 2 had to be tossed due to contamination which ok I get it, it happens. (Even while using a still air box🤦🏻) that being said Out of the 12 I’ve got 1 bag colonizing from a live culture. 1 out of 12 👎. I will not be giving them a third chance.

Better/more reliable options out there maybe?
Tried this brand for the first time…two of the bags appeared to be contaminated out of the box so they were trashed. The other four were ok, much slower going than other spawn packs available. Seemed like a good value, but didn’t have the quality that was described or expected. They have reached out, since the review and offered a refund or replacement. Opened my eyes to the possibility that due to the bags being contaminated upon arrival, it is possible that I was sent a return from Amazon which I had never considered. Also an indication that my experience may be an unusual one.
