Great, less expensive substitute for Hobby specific trim iron.
Was unable to find a shrink coat trim iron for my model airplane covering tight spots. The Hobbico, Tower and Hangar9 trim irons are all out of stock and costing nearly $50. This iron has an almost identical ironing shoe and cost less than 50% of the others. Luckily I read about this iron on one of the model airplane forums and Amazon had them in stock. I finally got mine after some ordering problems and used it the other night. It works greag and is higly recommended. The low heat setting are just a little below 200 degrees F and the high a little over 325, which works well for sealing most coveings around servo openings on wings and fuselages. Highly recommended.

Needs a sock for RC airplane covering film
Update 1/13/2026: I made a sock for it using some heavy cotton t-shirt like material. Works good now! Original: Too hot for Hanger9 Ultracote covering film for RC airplanes. It only has two heat settings. Even on the low setting it quickly melts the film or makes the glue ooze out and you end up smearing it around. Maybe a sock will help?

Diverse tool but could be hotter
I purchased this primarily as something more compact to iron seams when sewing. I liked the idea that it could serve a dual purpose of pushing out corners and ironing fabric at the same time. Previously I was using a small travel iron that didn’t get very hot. After reading reviews I was confident that this would be the solution but I don’t find that this gets very hot either. I was also very off put by the smell which hasn’t gone away after a few uses. I don’t even know how to describe it but it made me really nauseous the first use. Hopefully it will go away soon. Overall, it’s good in a pinch and hopefully we can get some diverse usage out of it. I just wish it got hotter and didn’t produce such an awful smell.

Heats up fast, good quality
For the price, this has a lot of quality. A lot better than other tacking irons I have used in the $30 range. The finish on the head is smooth and flawless. The plastic handle is is thick and substantial, you will not be burning your hands on it, as it offers good isolation from the head.

LOVE THIS
What a wonderful little iron! Makes quilt making so much easier. I can sit this right beside me while I am putting pieces together and just turn a bit to iron each seam. Now, granted, you have to use the larger iron once you get larger pieces sewn together but this sure cut a lot of time off of getting up and ironing each seem at the ironing board! Love this little iron!

Nice Small Size Iron, but Too Hot
It was the size I wanted, but even the low temperature was too hot for the Ultracote film I'm using it with. Wish there was a cooler setting. I allow it to heat up, then unplug it for a while, which is a clumsy way to use it.

Does what I need it to do.
I am using this tool to smooth my 3D prints. It has worked well so far. I like the small head which allows for a lot of maneuverability. I think it is a good choice for 3D prints and any other application requiring heat in smaller spaces.
